Hi
I've got Norton Internet Security 2006 installed on my PC, and this morning it told me I needed to upgrade to the 2008 version (free of charge) as part of my subscription. It started to upgrade, then told me there was a fatal error and couldn't continue.
I then discovered that it had removed the previous version of Norton IS, so I didn't have any protection at all. No problem, I thought, I'll reinstall it from the original disk.
So I put in the original disk, it started to install, and then told me there was a fatal error and it couldn't continue. So now I've got no Norton at all, and can't reinstall the original one.
Help, what can I do???

Clear your pc properly of it with the Norton Removal Tool http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Try again if you're a masochist. Otherwise install something better like AVG, Avast or Antivir at the least. Just because you still have a subscription to "use up", doesn't mean you should, especially with something as important as computer security."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Buy the way, if you follow my method and reinstall with a legal key.
You will find (cough) that you will have another year untill you have to do it again.0 -

Another year like your wading through treacle!
Remove and replace as superscaper suggested. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I like my Norton

I may be a minority but I never get any virus.
But because I have had it for years, and had the same problem as the OP I know my way around the product. Why else would I have uninstaled it over 50 times?0 -
