Self Employment Grant Mistake

I agree, but in the snip provided by the OP, the income is zero so taxable allowance is not a concern. "Total income received £0" before the personal allowance is deducted.Weezypops2 said:
But allowable expenses are different to personal allowance. The latter is the amount allowed for everyone before you pay tax. So the zero is because the profit was below that threshold.2 -
OP has not told us about other sources of income. If the self employment is the sole source of income, the figure of zero taxable income before personal allowances does not relate to OP's figure of £8,009, or HMRC's loss of £11,000. The only explanation I can think of is that OP's taxable profit before capital allowances was £8,009, and then £19,000 of capital allowances were claimed. This would be wholly illogical as there was no tax to pay. I don't think it can be losses brought forward, because OP said that there was a higher profit in 2016/17. That is why I asked what was on the self employment pages.

sorry for any confusion....I'm totally self employed. My only income is my photography.
This is how its listed on the Grant page when they're sorting my help money out...
2018 to 2019 tax return £10,055.00 ( list correctly )
2017 to 2018 tax return -£11,994.00 ( THIS is whats screwing with my head, I actually made £8009 profit, so not sure why its not listed as a loss/minus )
2016 to 2017 tax return £7,873.00 ( listed correctly )

I made a profit this year as mentioned above...just like the year before, and the year after.
They are correct, it's the middle one thats confusing....
Sorry everyone if I'm not making sense...

Look at the figures that result in the loss of £11,994. You will see various boxes with entries for deductions like annual investment allowance. It is here (I assume you complete the short version):

Thanks everyone.....
I think my way of trying to explain has complicated things even more
My fault, as I dont know the ins and outs of how it works,..I just filed the paperwork as normal in all three of these years ( short version ), so I just dont know why one year is £0 income, whilst the others (ALL the other years) are not....
Even when I make the income as the profit i made in the calculations for the Grant, its still not a lot....so I dont think anything can or will be done....
Thank you again for taking your time to answer this......I appreciate it.
Stay safe everyone and stay healthy.....I think this should be closed now.....as I'm done
Pass me a Gin....take care

OK gang
Just an update..... they've admitted it was a computer fault,...and now it reads as £8006 income received, which will obviously effect what I was entitled to....good times...
But then, with a flip of a coin...they are now charging me £148 for the missing NI payments...
hahahaha,.....swings and roundabouts....haha0 -

Glad you got to the bottom of it, annoying that you have to now pay tax, but better now with them holding their hands up than them finding out years down the line.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1
