Self employed grant

my wife has just applied for her grant and it’s been accepted ,it’s says it’s for March ,April and May so can anyone tell us if we have to put the March payment in last years tax year or just put all of it in this years.

Comments

  • Good point. I think it's all in this tax year as when money actually received.

If you prepare your accounts on an accruals basis, and you haven't prepared your accounts for 2019/20 yet (assuming your year end is 31 March/5 April), there is an argument that you should bring in a third of the grant into 2019/20. If you prepare your accounts on a cash basis, it is all in 2020/21, the year of receipt.
