O/S Daily Saturday 16 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start to the day here but dry underfoot.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk. I had some veggies from the fridge that need using up in a stir fry with a packet of mixed lentils/rice that I found in the back of the cupboard! Very nice it was too. Not sure what we'll be eating tonight - will sort that later.
Yesterday I got the food shopping done first thing, then had a couple of things to sort - which I did and it didn't take too long.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Much milder this morning but no sun! Very little forecast for us either. Oh well can't have everything!
As usual a day of the same old same old.for me. It gets a bit jading.to say the least. Now it's a bit warmer I'll venture into the garage and see if I can unearth to trough planters that are out there somewhere. I want to plant the salad leaves. It would help if there wasn't still the car out there. I lost my nerve with driving long ago so it's no use to me now, but DS said he might want it so don't get rid of it. But I want it out of the way so that I can have a good sort out. Bob was one for never throwing anything away. "It might come in one day" he always said. Consequently the garage is full of junk.
This virtual training I am "doing" with lad next door has ramped up a couple of gears now and I am beyond exhausted when it's finished. Not content with beating the hell out of the punchbag and skipping, we (!!!) are now boxing an invisible opponent and doing sit ups and press ups! I think someone is missing the gym!!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) galore for all the poorlies, sad, worried, lonely and plain fed up. Take care all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's fine here, looks like it's going to be a nice day, yesterday was ok as well.I was out in the garden by 9am yesterday, there wasn't a lot to do, it's only a little garden. Just a bit of weeding and general tidying, and I gave the hydrangea a good watering.I made a birthday card, but there's a couple of others to do, will do those over the next day or two. After doing some ironing, I started to go through my clothes and came to the conclusion that I have too much stuff, so a charity bag has been started!! The trouble is there are no chazzers open, and I have been known to take things out of the bag. The longer it's here, the greater the danger.Must do a bit of shopping today, that'll be local though. I made a list last night.Hope evryone has a good day, take care folks.12

Morning all, more of the same today for me too.
Yesterday OH made a special, very meaty meal for himself and the birthday boy. Knowing that I wouldn't want that, he said he thought I'd prefer to make my own and that was fine but I wish he had warned me as I then had to scramble to make something quick so that we could all eat at the same time. I had risotto with iceberg lettuce instead of rocket. It works better with romaine lettuce but we didn't have any. The lettuce gives it a nice texture.
It is quite dull here but less cold. No rain forecast so am watering stuff that went in recently. What has gone has been a few flowers grown from seed and some perennials that I've divided, if and when it becomes safe to go out I'll get bedding plants.
Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Morning everyone
It seems milder today so that's good, was quite chilly yesterday.
Plans this morning are to make sauce ready to make lasagne later and to clean inside of windows, as window cleaner did outsides yesterday.
Then I'll go down to mam and dad's for an outside chat.
This afternoon, hopefully the sun will come out and I'll sit outside with my book.
Hope you all have a good day today

Morning all
Its overcast and a bit dull here but meant to brighten up later on, I hops so as we are meant to bbq later on, we have treated ourselves to a steak and we have some sausages and I will make up some coleslaw and garlicky cubed potatoes.
OH and I went out for a lovely cycle yesterday I managed 7 miles I am very pleased I have no pain at all so my fitness levels are coming back, will go again today and maybe have a ride to a local church with a stall that sells asparagus and get a couple of bunches.
I have always been an avid reader as well as has DD when she started school she could read fluently and they would send her home with a book of the week, she would read it in moments and would ask for another one the next day, she soon finished all of receptions books so they moved her to year 1 books which she read quickly, once she had finished these I asked the teacher if she could move up to year 2 books and she said no as she would get too far ahead so I asked what she could read and she told me to start again with the reception books !! DD was not amused with this at all so we followed our own plan with books from the library !!
Need to clean and tidy through today and I bought a few more plants yesterday so will get them potted up, and I suspect a nana nap will be on the cards later.
Have good days all xx10 -
Morning all! Missed yesterday, got an impromptu call yesterday morning which went on for while and by the time it was finished, I thought I'd better show willing because OH was painting the garage, so I went out in the garden and didn't come back in till seven. However, the garage is now painted, makes the rest of the garden look shabby, but also gives a nice fresh look or will do once he's painted the wall of the house [ he's in the zone, I'm just agreeing with him whenever he suggests painting something he's gone paint-crazy] , the canes are all set up in the greenhouse, tomatoes are all potted on to their final places , they spent the night in the greenhouse last night so will go and check on them in a bit. I cut the back off two old chairs to make a makeshift table for the potting on, and removed a fence panel for him to paint next doors garage wall for more paint craziness [ already asked them and they said do what you like, we can't see it] Cut a bit of tree branch down but thanks to physics, the rest, freed from the weight have sprung up higher so I need the bigger sized ladder upstairs to reach more.Today, is more of the same type of gubbins, no change here...Nice to see you all eysterday [ I did read everything], here's hoping you all have a good day today. I wave my creaky fingers at you on sticking plaster Saturday [ cut my finger yesterday, doh!]Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12

Morning all.
I think it's Saturday-ish today so I will be following Gers example and going off to buy my paper. I only have one once a week, and that only for the crossword .
dpl sitting outside with a book sounds good, I might join you.
You be careful TA, watching all this exercising must be exhausting. We don't want you to injure yourself.
AOD, I decided long ago that bedding plants were the way to go. I know it is a bit more expensive, but at least you know you are going to have something to plant.
ScarletRibbons I do that thing with the CS bag too. I look at something and think, "But what if it is a cool summer? Or, thats the only thing I have to go with my pink skirt," and out it comes.
RedRuby, I understand how your daughter felt. I was reading fluently before I went to school and was most intrigued by the letters and pictures round the classroom walls and the fact that as a class we had to all chant "A says a. B says b." as the teacher pointed to the pictures.
I also remember when I had my own school and was showing a prospective parent round. We went into the reception class and she was staggered to see a little 5 year old boy deep in Alice in Wonderland. She couldn't get her child on the list fast enough. The little boy in question had come into the nursery class already reading. We only had supply the books!
Don't have anything that HAS to be done today, so will happily drift along as the spirit moves. I love it!
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
This also will pass. It might pass like a kidney stone, but it WILL pass.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning All
It's a bit showery this morning but went for a walk anyway to the far away post office, I bought some magazines for the DGC so have posted them off. Can't believe the price of children's comics but I know they will enjoy reading them, doing the puzzles and playing with the tacky 'free' gifts.
I got the rest of the railings rubbed down yesterday but will need to wait for some more settled weather before I start painting, not looking forward to it but it will look a whole lot better, turns out the gate and railings were a sickly green before they were black, not very nice at all.
Today's jobs depend very much on the weather but may just stay in and do some sewing. Will put a wash on in a minute but I think it will be staying indoors.
Hope you all have a good Saturday, take care. XX11 -
Morning all.TA I love the exercise stories!
Been out for my dog walk and took some videos of the birdsong in the wooded areas. I was looking forward to listening especially to the last one. Turns out I had the video set in slo-mo. Didn’t even know that was possible. DH says you can change it so he’ll have a look. He loves that sort of thing and I love just handing my phone over.Plans for today include a clean and also cooking a curry.Loving the stories about early readers and very glad that times have changed and children allowed to read more advanced books. Oh I am soooo looking forward to libraries opening. Anyone else? That was my Saturday morning routine. Anyway they will open at the right time.Forecast to be hot midweek for us so will get plenty of salad things on the Monday shop. I’m doing what I can to buy British just now but it’s also a case of in and out of the shop quickly so it’s a quick glance at labels to check date mostly. We do get a veg box which is local and seasonal although I ordered some tomatoes this week and they were so delicious. Will order every week now.Have a good day folks x9
