My friend is working as an hca at her local hospital on a zero hours contrac . She is classed as bank staff and will work when there are available shift . She is currently 23 weeks pregnant and the hospital will only allow her to work until she is 28 weeks ina patient facing role. If there are no other suitable roles when she gets to 28 weeks is she able to be furloughed as she is vulnerabl .

Shielding isn’t criteria by itself for furlough and I wouldn’t expect the hospital she works at to offer it either because the expectation is that NHS won’t use the scheme.
She will be eligible to start her maternity leave from 29 weeks or she may have to request unpaid leave or in her case not to be allocated any shifts from that point onwards.0
