How to determine dogs breed for insurance?

We are rehoming a 15 week old dog from the RSPCA, which they believe is a Cane Corso Usually you get 4 weeks insurance when you adopt a dog from the RSPCA, but they have just advised us that their insurance company does not offer cover for Cane Corsos. I have looked online at a couple of companies, but the breed doesn’t appear in their drop down boxes, so I’ve got to call up and see if they provide cover. My query though is whether the dog is actually a Cane Corso, as his mum only weighs 35kg & the pup himself only 7kg at 15 weeks, which is very small for the breed. The dogs were seized from an unlicensed breeder & the RSPCA were told that they were of that breed, but there is no evidence & they have never seen the dad. If the dog doesn’t fit into the breed standards, would we be able to register him as a mixed/unknown breed and insure him that way, or should we try to do a DNA test (I’m not sure how reliable they are?) to determine his breed? I was thinking that maybe our vet could help once he’s a bit bigger, but obviously they are not currently open to see him! Does anyone have any advice or know of insurance companies that cover larger breeds at all..?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot for replying! We did actually contact them a while back, but never heard back from them & as all the details & posts on the site are old, we assumed that they were no longer running - do you know if this is wrong..? I have however since spoken to our vet over the phone & they said that without pedigree papers, nobody can confirm for certain what breed he is, so they recommended we just put him down as a large mixed breed. I hope there won’t be any issues with doing this...

I'd try to persuade the RPSCA to put 'mixed breed' on the adoption paperwork

He’s arriving today, very excited!!! We’ve done just that & they were absolutely fine with putting that on the paperwork!

I hope you have many years to  enjoy your dog but I do hope you have researched the breed as a cane corso is large, powerful, guarding breed.

We’ve had several different molosser breeds before - we’re not one of those people who get a cute little puppy & then get shocked when it doesn’t stay that size. But thanks for your well wishes! 😊

I wish you many happy years with your new companion 🐶

BTW, the 'thanks' button disappeared for a while, you weren't going mad! :)
    It's not difficult!

It’s returned, but you can have an led fashioned thanks as well! Pup currently snoring in his bed & we’re very happy, even if he kept us up all night! 😂
