Cancelling direct debit

I’m with Sky mobile and have an issue with my bill. I need to speak to someone as the help I need is not available online. At the moment you can’t get through to Sky at all as they’re not accepting incoming phone calls, And my direct debit is due out on Monday (18/5). Because I can’t get hold of sky I’m thinking of cancelling my direct debit which would hopefully prompt them to call me. Just wondering if this will affect my credit rating? Thank you.

If you purposely miss a payment? Yes of course it will.

In any case its far too late to cancel a direct debit the working day before it goes out.

If there's been a loss of service due to a fault on the providers part, you can raise a formal complaint about it when things return to normal asking for a fair and reasonable adjustment to be made to your bill.

If you cancel your DD and don't pay your bill, the provider will be under a legal obligation (GDPR) to report the factual data - that the bill was not paid - to the credit reference agencies.

In what way are they not accepting calls? Have they turned the lines off completely?

No, actually it isn't. If you phone your bank they can still stop a direct debit going out - they just cancel the instruction, which they have to do immediately when asked to do by the customer. You can also have it reversed and refunded from your bank after it goes out.

For the purposes of getting the other party to call you and nothing else, it seems rather ridiculous.

It's also more likely to result in a letter than a phone call. Companies like to have paper trails when chasing up money owed.

SKY do NOT report to your credit files for mobiles so it will not effect your credit file
