TUI holiday 17th June

Hi
I have booked a package holiday to Mexico with TUI for 2 weeks from 17th June. The holiday has not been yet cancelled- we’ve not heard anything from TUI and their website only mentions holidays up to 11th June. Is there a time frame where you must be told by a certain date e.g. 4 weeks before your travel date? I’m a bit frustrated because I’m 99.9% sure we won’t be able to go but why haven’t we been told yet!? I’m not sure whether to cancel annual leave or keep just in case (a girl can dream).
I’m also not sure if we should take travel credit or refund- which is the more sensible option? The holiday cost £3100 and the same holiday next year would cost £1100 more, less 20% incentive.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

We are in a similar situation but August. I’m worried that ‘credit vouchers’ or whatever aren’t covered if they go bust. I thought about re booking straight away for next year, but would we still be fully covered as we would be paying by vouchers???

I'm sure it's covered in the link but I'm sure I read vouchers will be covered.

It is technically a credit note rather than a credit voucher and as you have an ATOL Protected holiday package you are financially covered should the Operator fail.

That is not correct, the Government still has not confirmed that RCN are covered Latest info  14th May

     https://www.abta.com/news/european-commission-issues-recommendation-use-refund-credit-notes-cancelled-package-holidays

Mark Tanzer, ABTA’s Chief Executive, says, “That the European Commission has endorsed the correct use of financially protected Refund Credit Notes should help to give additional confidence to UK holidaymakers that they can be trusted to provide the same protection as the original holiday booking. We now need the UK Government and the CAA to come out and confirm their status, which the industry has long been waiting for.”
