Credit balance refund - bank statement required?

Hello,
I hope everyone is well!
I’ve recently had my annual season ticket refunded to my Sainsbury’s credit card and as I’d paid some off already, I’ve now got a positive balance on my card of around £1200.
I’ve asked Sainsbury’s to transfer it back to me, but they have said I need to send them a full bank statement in the post before they can do that. I don’t have anything to hide on my statement, but I’m just not very comfortable putting a bank statement in the post (even if I send it to be signed for). I don’t have a direct debit set up, as I like to pay as much as I can each month - so maybe that’s why they haven’t offered me a straight refund, but that wasn’t even mentioned (and I didn’t think to ask at the time!), as they said it’s the amount of money that is the issue.
So, I was just wondering if this sounds like standard procedure, as I just can’t find any evidence of this being required anywhere else!
Many thanks

It's not common, but they're being cautious and want to know it's going to the right place.
Just blank out the gambling, drugs and hooker transactions and send them a copy.2 -
Or if you really don't want them nosing around your bank statement, just use the £1200 for normal expenditure.1

No most card providers would normally send it back to the account that pays the statement. Do you pay from more than one account?
Any way that you can email a PDF copy?Life in the slow lane0 -
Just ask them to send you a cheque for the refund.

no, just the one account - i pay monthly online with my debit card though, so i assume that’s the issue. no option to email unfortunately!born_again said:No most card providers would normally send it back to the account that pays the statement. Do you pay from more than one account?
