This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sun making an appearance but air is chilly.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, LO yorkshires, veg and gravy - not sure about tonight but I'm going food shopping this morning so will organise something then.
I have a "to do" list to work my way through today.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a fine morning here, yesterday was a lovely day, with plenty of sunshine, a bit chilly though. We did a 4 mile walk through local woodlands, thoroghly enjoyed it. All the birds were calling, and everything so fresh and green. Not much on the agenda for today - on Wednesday I got some summer clothes out, how optimistic! and washed them yesterday, they need ironing, and just general housework.A work colleague used to say "there's always something for women to do" and she was right.Hope everyone is ok, and has a good FridayTake care folks14

Hi, I've popped back after reading yesterday's posts (yes,a sensible person would have read yesterday's before posting this morning, but there you go!) and I was so pleased to see how many people still treasure their childhood books.lI've still got loads of Famous Fives, Swallows and Amazons, What Katy did, and I think What Katy did next. Also Little Women, and Good Wives. Carbonel by Barbara Sleigh and others.I still read them occasionally, and have been reading Famous Fives during lockdown, think I'll read Little Women next. Does anyone remember "Bunchy" by Joyce Lankester Brisley, who wrote the Milly Molly Mandy books?I wonder, does it make us feel safe to go back to childhood in these uncertain times? who knows, but I'm enjoying it.14

Morning folks and thanks for the start off NMLC. A glorious start here too and I have my fingers crossed it will be a bit warmer than yesterday, when that blooming nithering wind was back again. There's no movement in the trees this morning so maybe the wind has moved on to pastures new.
DD stopped off after work then shopping with the few bits I needed so I am now stocked up.. She collected the Bol Bake for the girls at the same time. She said work was steady and only one of the recovering Covid patients, being discharged from hospital into their care, had so far arrived. She had expected to go in to mayhem after a few days off.
So what's on the agenda for me today. I did the kitchen and bathroom yesterday and steamed the floors, so today I will amble around with the duster and vac. Sparkle has snuffled on the windows again so they will be to clean sometime, but not today! I doubt it will be warm enough to sit out this afternoon so it will be feet up on the sofa instead. I have a new book to start, so today will find me in Spain. A virtual holiday.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking as always of our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care and stay safe xx

Morning all
well it looks like it might be a sunny warm one today rather than a sunny cold one .. Today the house is lovely and empty just me and the dog . I do need to go shopping for milk and bread today so will have a cuppa and venture out .
Taff we had an apple tree with a nice sturdy branch just the right height for me to throw a rug over and gallop across the fields on my imaginary horse sadly the tree is no longer there but your memories sparked mine and i remember those easy childhood summer days .
Dinner tonight not sure we are trying to eat out of the freezer and cupboards so will be pot luck i think
I love to read and always have i can never get enough i used to love a book of my mums and i still have it called Worralls of the WRAF she was related to Biggles i wish we had more than that one but it was war time when she got it
Right off to start the day have a good one what ever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini12 -

Bright enough today but no glorious sunshine, yesterday it was showery so rain stopped play outside. Still some of the railing is still to be rubbed down, I'm doing the neighbour's side and showed him that the wire brush had seen better days so he went to look for one in his shed - I would have thought he would have offered to do it but no such luck.
I voiced my concerns over the work laptop, they are going to get keyboard covers we can keep here and the laptop will be spending a good few days in school between swaps, I don't think they realised the consequences. I felt much better after I'd said my piece, thought it would sound like I don't want to do the work!
Today I must go shopping and go to a high school to have the codes checked for home working, will collect my new wire brush whilst I'm out and about.
The work quiz night was good fun, it's nice to see everyone but I have to admit to being nosey and looking at their decor!
Hope you all have a happy Friday, take care. XX11 -
Morning all, just read back on yesterday's thread.
Among my favourites were The Family at One End Street, Milly Molly Mandy, My Naughty Little Sister, Ballet Shoes, all the Fairy books, Grimm's Fairy Tales, What Katy Did, Little Women, The Secret Garden and so many more. My parents couldn't keep up with my book needs as I've always been a voracious and fast reader so I spent a lot of my life going to the library.
I still read a lot. But on the last few weeks I seem to have lost my concentration, I suspect that it is due to free-floating anxiety.
I'm just about to hang washing out, it is quite blowy so fingers crossed.
I shan't bore you with my plans for the day, but I will tell you that my little boy is 29 today.
Stay safe and well.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -

I agree that reading them again can will be a bit of calm escapism. Oh and I’m another who had imaginary horses although I did start riding real horses when I was about 14. I’ve gone back to it a few times over the years, last time just a few years ago.Ok am off out with pooch.Hope you have as good a day as possible folks x12

Bright and sunny here and Im hoping the wind has dropped a bit. I manages 4 miles on my bike yesterday but it was windy and I was fighting against the wind most of the way, I am pleased though as I had no pain at all last night so I must be getting used to the exercise we also took the dogs out for a good walk so a good active day.
Onto today my mum has ordered some meat from the butchers so OH and I will cycle to the next village to collect it OH has panniers on his bike so will carry it back, will also get out for a walk.
Dinner tonight will be pizza and salad so nice and easy although I might make a warm salad with halloumi and mushrooms to jazz it up a bit.
We went out and clapped last night a load of people in the road now do it, a police car went past with lights flashing and horn beeping waving at everyone its a really nice weekly occurrence now.
Right better get on have good days all xx
AOD Happy Birthday to your son xx13 -
I'm popping back on to tell you my book plans have changed today! All this book talk has reminded me of a big book I spotted in a charity shop in Lancaster when eldest DGD was about 10 ish (she is now almost 16) At the time she was into Jacqueline Wilson, Michael Morpurgo and the Dork Diaries etc and she rarely had her nose out of a book. The book was in pristine condition, "Stories for Girls" packed with short stories, and exerts from longer stories of all the books I loved when I was a child - What Katy Did, Little Women, Pollyanna, Heidi, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, The Secret Garden, and lots lots more. I bought it for DGD thinking she would enjoy it, It never even got opened! No wonder it was in pristine condition, its previous owner must not have opened it either! DGD preferred to have her nose in her more modern books.. .I have just unearthed it in her bedroom and plan on having a trip down memory lane this afternoon! Happy reading folks x
ps happy birthday to AOD's baby boy!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning everyone
It's a beautiful sunny morning here with the birds chirping away outside and my Steve gently burping inside after a cooked breakfast . We are making a few changes in that I am going to be in charge of breakfasts, Steve will do lunches and we will all take turns to make dinner. This is a much fairer way to do things as poor Steve was having to do mostly everything.
I have loved the childhood book discussions on here. I was a voracious reader as a child and loved children's books as well as working my way through my Dad's Agatha Christie collection. I used to read so fast (still do) that my Dad wouldn't believe that I had actually read each book and used to test me afterwards. I am glad to say that I always passed . We are all still big readers in this house and my favourites are now the Terry Pratchett books which I have read and re read many times as a comfort to me.
Dinner tonight will be sea bass for me and chicken for everyone else with a nice spring vegetable risotto. I had some asparagus in my last veg box which I am very keen to eat up. We had a very nice Korean takeaway last night and this time I didn't over order as there was just enough for us all. It was delicious and not at all greasy so we will order from there again.
Not much planned today to be honest, I think there is some washing to sort and put away bit that is about it. I am halfway through knitting a monkey so that will be my activity for today. I need to start my gargoyle I am making for my Mum for her birthday next month. I have so many projects I want to make, I need the arms of an octopus to make them all.
Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx
