CIFAS CAT6 marker

Dear Members,
I had a CIFAS marker recorded in March 2014, I came across this when I open up a bank account it goes thru and approves. And then after a week I receive a letter stating they are closing down the account. This happened everytime I tried to open up an account. After few advises I managed to get a copy of CIFAS Subject access request. I've noticed I had a CIFAS marker recorded but it wouldn't show on my credit file.
According to SAR it gets removed on 17th of March 2020. I waited all these years to get rid of this marker. I tried opening an account in April 2020 and the account got closed the following week.
Does anyone know what must have caused this? Do I have to wait even longer to open up a bank account?
Kind regards
Kay

Are you applying to the same banks that you applied to when you had the CIFAS marker? If so it may still be on their records that you had a CIFAS so they just don't want to do business with you.
Have you tried opening an account with a bank you've never opened an account with / never applied to before?0 -
Submit a fresh SAR to CIFAS to see if there's still any markers against you.1

The above is probably your answer. Even though a new request to CIFAS may not yield any marker, internal records of banks you applied to before will still have the information which means they deny you without having to even search CIFAS's database. The bank can keep the record for up to 7 years so I will be looking to apply to a bank you have not applied to before.notveryeducated said:Are you applying to the same banks that you applied to when you had the CIFAS marker? It is also good to apply for another SAR with CIFAS before making applications with other banks just to confirm the record has actually been removed and there is no new ones spooking the banks.1 -

In fact, for most things, banks are required to keep the records for a minimum of 7 years. Unclear on rules around credit check results, but it would allow them to back up decisions later if challenged.Peter

Lets just say we have customer details from when they opened accounts. So long as there have been no system changes. Last one was 30 odd years ago.lopsyfa said:The bank can keep the record for up to 7 years so I will be looking to apply to a bank you have not applied to before.
