This company is advertising everywhere on Facebook and claims to support environmental projects and sells lovely - looking products. They also have a name very similar to genuine charity. However,  they took my money and I've waited 50 days for a T-shirt which I think will never come. They delete poor reviews on social media, ship from China (very environmentally friendly) and their postal tracking looks dodgy. Avoid!  How do I get my money back?

How much did you pay for the T shirt and how did you pay? You definitely have rights but the answers will determine how and where you go from here.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

The location of the company itself may be relevant. If it's a Chinese company, you're not covered by UK consumer rights.

As for the rest, you weren't that bothered about them shipping from China when you ordered.
  • I have also purchased from this company Sarah but unlike yourself, did receive my (yellow) T-shirt, for what it was worth! At a cost of £17.99 (reduced from £32+!!) and for the price had imagined the logo of a Bee, which is on at risk list, was possibly embroidered! It wasn't. I could have swallowed this due to the so called charity support! However it was a cheap oversized T in a dark horrible mustard colour with stick-on logo. There was no order error, this was the supposed yellow!! They answered my first email and asked me to send picture of the shirt I received, which I did, but I'm now being blanked. And whilst this company purports to have a base in London, there are no phone numbers for customer service. Have now pulled up Trust Pilot which I'm always sceptical about consulting anyway, but there are lots of complaints on there also. It's my own fault although it looked legit with safe website. Know I'll not get any joy so getting on with life. Just beware folks.

Moral of story. If its advertised on Facebook or other social media sites. Odds on they are based in China. The produce is crap.

If you paid on debit or credit card & it's not turned up there are chargeback rights. If via paypal then look at their dispute process.

If only there were alternative places where you could buy clothes, rather than from social media.  Such a gap in the market.

I read as far as the bit in bold and could guess the problem straight away.

Although this is a 2 month old thread that same advert is popping up again. There's very little point in warning people about it but just in case....

facebook allow anyone to advertise if they pay - many sites, I would be as bold to suggest 90% +  are dodgy far east companies pretending to be UK and using photos lifted from other sites and either sending inferior goods, or something cheap and nasty instead. Before parting with any money do your due diligence and spend a couple of minutes checking them out.

The latest scam bait is pretending to be a well established company that is having to sell off good stock at bargain prices as they have failed to survive the Covid 19 crisis. They all use the same or similar tag line 'unfortunately our business has failed to survive the virus crisis and we are sadly closing down, all our stock massively reduced' . It tricks your brain into thinking that this is a well established and well known business that you have perhaps overlooked- in fact it was set up yesterday to sell you shoddy goods.

I have only ever ONCE bought something from one of these Facebook adverts, and it was perfectly as described, but...

    1) I didn't just buy through the link. I visited their website, checked they had UK contact address and numbers.
    2) I looked up reviews online. Not fake ones written by the company but genuine ones.
    3) In their advert, they actually had photos from customers who had received goods and were really happy. I clicked on their profiles and they did appear to be genuine people who lived in the UK.
    4) I paid with Paypal.

I cannot believe the amount of adverts that fail these basic checks... And some are so blatantly Chinese!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • I, too, was scammed by Our Earth Project and have emailed the charities mentioned on their website, so far had a reply from two of them to say that they have asked OEP to take them off their website as they have not agreed to collaborate. Unfortunately, as with their customers, they have not received a reply. The only address for them is a PO Box in Feltham.
