Password protected credit

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone can advise me...
Years ago I was a little concerned about financial security/identity around credit/finance etc. due to a personal matter so I took up the option of putting a password onto my credit file so that If anyone wanted to fraudulently get credit/finance for any items in my name then they'd be unable to do so as they wouldn't know the password when asked for it.
Now years have passed and I've never bought anything on credit. But this has led to me completely forgetting the password! I'm not even sure how I set it up - it might possibly have been Experian (I've contacted them but haven't heard anything back). I've also contacted my bank and they say that it's nothing to do with them.
So, does anyone know how to get rid of this function, or at least reset the password?
Many thanks in advance!

Ahhh thank you so much for the info! No-one I've spoken to has even heard about it before!
I'm not exactly sure how long ago I set it up... must be around the 6 year mark.

Yes I did one on Experian's advice after an ex screwed my credit applying for all sorts in my name. It worked well and when I rang to change it was told it dropped off the same as any other information on your file after 6 years unless you ask for it to stay on.1

If you obtain a copy of your Experian credit file through MSE Credit Club you should see the entry under "notices of correction", if it's still there.2
