Random credit from Tesco to a bank account

Someone I know has just received her bank statement and there is a random credit of £4.50 from Tescos. The problem is that it won't be a refund as she hasn't bought anything in Tescos for several years and her card number (and expiry date) would have changed at least once during that time. She's checked with both the bank and Tescos but neither are interested in taking it any further, presumably because of the amount involved. She has a Tesco Clubcard but Clubcards don't have bank details stored so there would be no connection between the two.

Does anyone know why she would get the money?

If she’s raised the issue and no-ones bothered I wouldn’t worry. She’s done her part.

It’s possibly an error, an incorrect digit or so entered at some stage, or the only other thing I can think of is a reversal from years ago that’s suddenly flagged up from a previous error perhaps.

Most likely, someone in store has tried to issue a refund to someone else and for some reason manually keyed in the wrong PAN - easily done.
Don't spend it all at once  :)
  • Does she subscribe to delivery saver for online grocery deliveries? Tesco refunded part of the monthly fee before making the service free to subscribers temporarily because of the difficulties getting a delivery slot recently. Mine showed as coming from an area not local to me.

Did she have a Tesco saving account?  I had one and they stopped the direct debit as it was a low amount.  I have just closed that account and they transferred the balance.  I also had a Post Office savings account with a small balance, that they stopped the direct debit and closed the account, so I lost the balance, they told me that it had been transferred to a charity account.
