Broken TV - Worth Claiming?

Hi folks,

My son has just thrown something at our TV and broken it. We really treated itself with it - it was nearly £1000, and only a few months old. Needless to say, pretty gutted...

It looks like our Home Insurance will cover it (after a £350 excess), but I've never even thought to claim for something like this (hence the excess)...
1.Is it worth it?
2.Will the bump in future insurance prices be so high that we actually lose money?
3. If I do claim, do they give the the full price for a replacement or an adjusted, estimated value (I don't want to claim for them to decide it's worth half as much and only get a couple hundred)?
4.Finally (and unrelated), do you guys know if it could be recycled, or does it just go to the tip (when they reopen) - it looks like a tiny crack, but the screen went crazy and now it won't turn on...

Thanks everyone!

Accidental damage cover is when something gets knocked over / spilt and broken. You may struggle with the circumstances.

    1. Up to you.
    2. Possibly.
    3. Depends what the policy says, some are new for old, some are current market value.
    4. The tip normally has a place for TVs and electrical item to go and they get stripped and recycled.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.
