My elderly had an injury which then turned into an abscess. The vet did an over the phone consultation and issued antibiotics + painkillers. The treatment was for 8 days and the bill came to £53 in total. After day 9, there was still a wee bit of swelling but not too much so I emailed early the vet in the morning to ask for more antibiotics. The vet did not respond so I called that evening and the nurse said the vet would call me but again didn't. Should this request for further antibiotics be 'continued treatment' under the first consultation fee or do you think they want to charge a second consultation fee? What do your vets do re follow ups?

I lost my cat last year, but local vets did the same as above, reduced fee for second or subsequent consults.

Mine charges. Unless it's a further ongoing issue when they decide they've had enough money off me and don't charge further consultations.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

No different from going to your doctor, you need a private prescription that will be a one time only.   You want it again you got back and pay and get another prescription for the following month.      The six months means the prescription is valid for six months so you can collect it any time with the six months.

My vet charged a reduced fee for the second consultation - it was only around £5. I persuaded her to issue further antibiotics/ anti-inflammatories rather than taking her in. It worker. Finally got rid of the abscess.

The prescription can be 1 month, 3 months or 6months. It is th vet's decision based on any of the following factors. The condition, the medication, how the animal reacts to the medication ,   is the owner   administering  correctly and monitoring it correctly. Does the animal need regular reviews?
  • Hi. I am from Europe originally and there vet never issue antibiotic without clinical examination. It is so weird to me that someone is going to that and charge 53 $? wow

The UK is part of Europe.

During the current covid 19 situation vets  are under instructions to only see an animal if  absolutely necessary.
Consultations are being done over the  phone, or  by video if available.
The  same as GP'S are doing phone consultations rather than a patient attending the surgery unless necessary.
We are  not in normal times and things are not being done normally.
This is to protect   you, the owner and the staff.
