Should I cancel

I'm due to pay my balance for a cruise on the 23rd May. I'm bothered if I pay the balance could the cruise company say they are still travelling. I'm due to cruise the Med for 7 days followed by a 3 night hotel stay. My balance is over £5000. I would rather lose the deposit than pay even more. I'm cruising with marella cruises.

You've answered it yourself. If the cruise goes ahead, would you enjoy being confined to a ship with the reputation this virus has given them? If they cancel, you'll probably be offered a voucher for a future cruise, which will have no value if the cruise line goes out of business, and it's hard to believe that quite a few won't.

I assume if its Marella its been booked through TUI so she would be able to book anything through TUI and First Choice.

As an aside if the due date is the 23rd May the sailing is mid-August. I highly doubt that will happen (mine on the Marella Celebration on the 13th August was cancelled last week) and it may be cancelled even before the balance is due anyway. If not pay it and you will get it all back if you ask them. I rang up yesterday and the refund of my deposit is being processed.

That was because Marella decided Celebration was leaving the fleet with immediate effect. Some Celebration cruises were allocated to other ships but a big chunk were just cancelled. My cruise for the end of September was also cancelled last week because Discovery 2 is being mothballed for several months. Until the end of next April Marella will only be running two ships.
