Barclaycard Shuffle

Hubby and I have both balances on Barclaycard @ 6.9% but when I phoned the call centre I was offered a rate of 5.9%. So I've transferred the balances off the cards and want now to transfer the debt (and abit more from higher interest cards) back to Barclaycard @ 5.9%.

Having read Martin's article I see that we should wait to get a statement with a zero balance.

Can anyone explain why if I get Barclaycard to confirm over the phone that the balance is zero I should still wait?

And interest or other charges is not normally applied until the statement date.

You should still wait. The 'statement' date triggers any interest charges, application of any payments made and resets your promotional and standard balances carried forward. Always safer to wait until after next statement.

If you have lots of balances elsewhere, you may find it difficult transferrring your balance back to barclaycard, even if it is the same balance as before, as they will do an additional credit check on you.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys for the answers......hopefully everything will go smoothly with the Barclaycard but if it doesn't we always have his new M&S card and his Texaco card to fall back on although for obvious reasons I would prefer not to have to rely on them!
