PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Why would such threads be banned? Freedom of speech and all thatpinkteapot said:Is it me, or with threads exclusively about house price speculation banned, are we getting a lot more new posters saying "I'm buying a house, should I renegotiate?"...0 -

The whole banning house price discussion thing on this forum is just weird. It’s like pretending there isn’t an elephant in the room. It was always much more effective to have the house price board active to divert discussion to. Now you just get spillover.1 -
There is a section of the forum dedicated to discussing house prices. This isn't it.SharkMoney said:

Judging from what I've read here that's unusual, most posters seem to have put £500-£1000 down plus also many have then spent additional on extras such as upgraded kitchens and the like.RelievedSheff said:Certainly in our case when we bought a new build last year losing the deposit would have been trivial compared to the cost of the house. Our reservation deposit was £99. We didn't pay anything else towards the house until the day we exchanged, completed and moved in 3.5 weeks later.0 -
What developer was that? Mine asked for £1000!!RelievedSheff said:

You are sure to meet resistance from the developer, so will you feel better if you try? If you have a deposit, you may lose it if you walk away. So punk, do you feel lucky?0 -

It was on a completed property that was ready to move into so no extras or upgrades to pay for.1 -
No, just fed up of these threads popping up, when they could just look at ones already posted.abanksee said:
Why? Even rics are saying there is going to be a big drop. 40% of surveyor asked thought more than 4% i think. You don't have a vested interest by any chance do you?Marvel1 said:No, stick to what you offered.0 -
Not allowed to talk about house prices when they're going down apparently. The powers that be have had a tantrum lol

I agree, this isn't it. But unfortunately they have closed the part that is it. They claim it's to do with moderator resources, maybe it is, although I never thought it needed that much moderation in reality. But there has long been an undercurrent on these forums where they powers-that-be haven't been comfortable about such discussions for whatever reason.RelievedSheff said:

Personally I think the divert-and-segregate approach worked really well; if they close it just get spillover, so you end up moderating that instead. You just will. It's important, and people want to talk about it.0
