Previous keepers on V5 ??
Daft question time !!
Just bought a used car from a main dealer and was told it only ever had a single owner who had bought the car new (from the same dealer).
The V5 has just arrived & in the special notes it says:
No of former keepers 2
1. Declared new at first registration.
Just looking to check that the dealer wasn't telling me a porky.
I cant imagine they were but........
Thanks for any advice.

Possibly pre-registered in the dealer's name. Or bought on finance, and registered to the finance company, then transferred to the "owner" at the end of term.0

Keepers are not owners. The number of owners is not recorded anywhere. And DVLA won't tell you who they are...
The V5C does tell you first reg date and date the previous keeper "acquired" the vehicle. How do they sit?
Does it matter, particularly?0 -
Its a common tactic. The current keeper isn't a previous keeper.
When asking about previous keepers always add one to account for the current keeper.

Thanks chaps!
It probably doesn't matter but if I've been told A and its actually B then I'd be a wee bit annoyed.
The V5 doesnt say the date that the previous keeper acquired the vehicle just the date that I acquired it.Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -
My husband was the registered keeper of our car When he died the registered keeper was transferred to me and that added another one to the number of registered keepers .0

If you buy a pre-registered car it has to have had a keeper declared in order to register it so that'll be the dealership or the manufacturer depending on how it's done. The first person to buy it would be the first owner but wouldn't be the first registered keeper.
