Bereavement Payment

Hi all,
My Wife passed away several weeks ago and I have made a claim for bereavement payment, which has been accepted for the higher payment. I have three daughters (all under 12), and looking at the paperwork the monthly payment will only last for 6 months.
I understand that payment can be for upto 18 payments, but does anyone know how they calculate how many payments you can get, or if you can appeal it?

Thanks

Looking at the DWP's own guidance it suggests the payment period is less than 18 months if the recipient reaches pensionable age before 18 months is reached. Bereavement Support Payment  would cease at this point. If this doesn't apply then it is payable for the full 18 months. I can't see why it would stop at 6 months. Hopefully someoen else may know the reason why, if not I would suggest phoning them to ask for an explanation.

I can’t see any reason for it to stop other than OP reaching pension age. (I didn’t know that until reading your post!)

If there’s an explanation would be helpful if you could post back and let us know.

    Hi all.
Just spoke to them and it is a typing mistake. They have to manually type the dates into the form. All sorted though.
Thanks for your replies. Take care and keep safe. X
