This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 is settled and happy.
Cloudy overcast and chilly start to the day.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy. I remembered to get the pork steaks out to defrost - so tonight I'll braise those in stock in the oven and serve with mash and veg, LO yorkshires and gravy.
Work wasn't too bad yesterday - last day today for me, but I'm working Saturday too.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, another dull but dry day so I'll sort the washing in a bit.
Yesterday I did some small jobs but nothing at all interesting. Hoping to summon up some enthusiasm today but who knows, days are a bit samey aren't they, for those of us not working.
I might make a lemon cake. But son did some baking yesterday and I should think the lemons will keep. I have plenty to do, and I do have a high boredom threshold, fortunately.
Thank you for telling me that 12 magpies meant wealth. That would be rather nice but a bit unlikely. Perhaps it means that my February invoice will be paid...
I hope everyone has something good in their day today.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A nice bright start here and a bit more sun forecast than we got yesterday. Despite the lack of sun though, the bedding was dry by lunchtime. And as I am still here to tell the tale the clean SK duvet was beaten into submission in record time for once! All this exercise by proxy is paying dividends!! (love that description MONNA!)
So the excitement of today is an Iceland delivery this morning. Mostly fruit, veg and salad stuff, boring household stuff and store cupboard stuff (oh ok then a couple of bottles of wine may have slipped on to my order too!!) The question is will I get strawberries as they have been playing hokey cokey all week - on and off my list as they went in and out of stock. A text just now confirmed my delivery but says they have had to make a couple of changes to my order - it's sounding ominous for the strawberries methinks! I am awaiting the email telling me what's not available!
DB finally has a diagnosis (the consultant rang him yesterday) and is booked in at the hospital next week for an op. He sounded much more positive last night.
Breakfast is calling. As I have a couple of sad looking bananas in the bowl I am having banana pancakes with a dollop of yogurt and berries. It will make a nice change from my usual dippy or poached egg. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried and lonely. Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning, it's anothe fine start here, cold though.Yesterday's fine start didn't last, it turned out to be grey and dampish. I still got some polycotton bedding mainly dry, so that's something. We're taking some shopping to a couple of friends today, but it'll just be put down at the door, then back to the car.We managed a walk yesterday, just under 3 miles in an hour, DH tracks us, he has an app on his phone, we usually do between 2 and 3 miles. One of our local bakeries is open again, that's a good sign I think, though I'm a bit dubious about the easing of the lockdown, hope people don't go mad and start flocking to tourist/beauty spots.I'll just be pottering today, like AOD I have a high boredom threshold.Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks16

Morning folks.Seems that England is emerging from its cocoon, soon you'll all be flying again.Yesterday I patiently moved and organised a lot of my laptop files and folders. Doing that felt good for a while until I got bored. 🤣 Then I decided to load more music onto my phone, that kept me occupied form a good half hour until I realised that a whole swathe of my music was really rubbish that I haven't listened to for ages. ☹️ I need new music, trouble is I like rock music more than ballads or even most of the modern stuff. Think Led Zeppelin over Take That or Lewis Capaldi (not that they aren't good musicians). My task today will be to hunt down music.I hope that everyone has a fulfilling day with pockets of pleasure. Happy Wednesday.14

Morning all.
AOD &ScarletR here's another one with high boredom threshold. Mine is in the stratosphere. Arent we lucky? My children soon learned that it was not a good idea to whine that they were bored as my response was invariably, " Oh, good."
Yesterday I waved my fluffy duster around the sitting room, shifted a few piles of books from where they have been stacked since I moved in just before Christmas, moved a big mirror from behind the sofa to in front of the fireplace and took a damp cloth to a few smeary marks here and there. This is my equivalent of Spring Cleaning, so don't expect much more in the realm of housewifery.
My grandmother would be ashamed of me. Her mantra was always, " Look after the corners and the middles will look after themselves." Corners? Corners? Isn't that where the spiders live? Heaven forbid that I should make a spider homeless.
I'm cooking today. I have two fruit cakes to make. One for my bachelor friend who has a birthday on Friday and one for the kindly gentleman next door who strims my weeds for me. My tablet has twice changed strim to strip. I don't think I can, in all conscience, leave my post as saying that the kindly old gentleman next door strips for me. That would really lower the tone.
I also have a bag of mince in the fridge that needs something done to it. Well, cooking it would be a start.
Whatever you are up to, try to enjoy it.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Insanity does not run in my family. It strolls through, taking its time, getting to know everyone personally.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.16 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny day here again but still breezy ! I have a wash on the go and will hang it out for a while.
I did not have a good night last night I was still awake till three with pain in my boob I went out on my bike yesterday and enjoyed it so much that I think I overdid it, I didn't go particularly fast just too far I think, so today I will either have a rest from it or go on a nice short one to build my strength.
OH is picking up mums shopping today and will drop it off to her. I too have a high boredom threshold and can amuse myself quite well but I do like to get out for fresh air and a bit of exercise if I can.
I found some kiev's lurking in the freezer which need eating so I will do them for dinner with some chips and peas, I will do the spuds this morning so that I can have a nap this afternoon.
I was watching a cooking show last night and they made a chocolate cake and I really fancy one now so might make one soon, I need to get some SR Flour though as we have run out and the shops dont seem to have any still, there is a tiny local pop up shop which has some so I might have a gentle ride up there to get some.
Right better get on have good days all xx15 -
Morning All
Bright, sunny and chilly this morning. After I watered the garden yesterday we had rain all evening, the poor plants, it's either feast or famine.
I was busy all day yesterday, went to the allotment first to water and plant out the broccoli then back to sort the bedrooms, everything seems to be back in it's place apart from the bedside table, I gave that a quick coat of paint so it can go back in today. All this sorting resulted in cleaning the bathrooms, stripping the spare bed and general dusting and hoovering - even the stairs!
Not a lot to do today, I get bored very easily so will have to find another project soon. I'm sure there's loads I can do, it's just finding it!
We've been told we have to go and be set up for home working and to share a laptop between 3 of us, not sure how that's going to work and I'm not happy at having a laptop that has been in someone else's house. We have a group meeting with the boss tomorrow so will raise my concerns.
Take it easy RR, sounds like you cycled too far yesterday. By the way, I have a bag of SR flour, I must have been in the shop at the right time.
Gers - I ask alexa for a playlist and see what I like from there.
Not heard from MM for a few days, hope you're OK.
Enjoy Wednesday, take care. XX13 -
Morning everyone
Sunny here this morning but meant to still be chilly. Cut the grass at the front yesterday - today I'm going to go down to Homebase and get some weed killer. There's nearly more weeds than grass - it looks like I'm growing cabbages! Then I might carry on cutting the grass back from the paths to make a straight edge. I did some yesterday but it turned out to be a harder job in reality than it was in my head! Still, I've got plenty of time!
Other than that it'll just be a case of whatever the day brings....
Hope everyone has a pleasant day

Morning all! Sunny but a bit cold so far. Yesterday turned out quite well in the end, OH painted the garage door [side door this time], today he's painitng the side of the garage that faces the garden and painting it white...I will get on with riddling. We also dug out a little triangle of earth and grass that sits against the path all the way up and down and put it on the skip quick, because it wasn't collected yesterday, so I'll phone them today and see what's going on. I'll fill that in with sand today, it won't stop the grass growing back up to it, but it'll look neater for a while. And homemade wraps? Blimey, I can't get over how nice they were [you were bang on Nels]. Totally different texture, not as floppy as normal ones but that made it easier to hold them and I cooked the meat, peppers and onons in skewer on a skillet instead of all together in one big frying pan like I do usually. Again, revelation! Nicely blackened bits of stuff....I know I'm blowing my trumpet here but it was so much better than normal. And the wraps were dead easy to make. I looked at a few recipes on the internet to get an idea of what they're supposed to be, didn't find one I liked so made my own up, just shy of one cup of flour to one cup of masa flour, good dollop of olive oil, salt and hot water, mix to a soft dough and leave for twenty minutes. I forgot to cover them so they had a like a firmer skin on the top, so I divided them into four, ran them under the tap, then left three in the bowl while i rollingpinned the first one between cling film sheets. It was wonky to the max, but cooked beautifully. Get some masa. If you like wraps and you like corn, you'll love it. And bonus, not very messy at all thanks to cling film. I wish I ate enough of them to justify buying a tortilla press but I can't. Although I do see some in my future to have with scrambled eggs and bacon in the morning at some point. So today is riddling more stones and sand, and something to make me pee with excitement, measure up some wood to attach to the upvc frame so we can pin the flynetting to it in stead of it being stuck with duct tape to the doorframe [ because the silly little bits of velcro they suply to stick it don't stick] I get to play with power tools today..Look out fingers, here comes trouble!Oh and I will be potting on the tomatoes and cucumbers and shoving them to their final home in the greenhouse.I love a bit of potting on , it's just me and the dirt, just like being a child and playing mud pies again.Gers, if you use youtube or spotify when you pick something you like, more stuff similar to that pops up on the side. That's how we discovered Nathaniel Rateliff. Ruby, tut tut, bad girl! Go easy..Monna, my mother always refused to move spiders on from their corner homes too. And they were always She's..Scarlet, same as, if the infection rate in Germany went up again after their lockdown was eased, I've got no doubt it'll do the same here, I don't think seven weeks in lockdown is a big price to pay for staying alive because it's all a lottery as to whether you'll get sick or not. TA, good news about your brother. Nanny, don't panic, that's what I spent on the shopping too, but I'm justifying it by saying it's four weeks in between shops at the moment so not that bad. Hey all reading along, I sprinkle you with fairy dust today [ and it's invisible so no cleaning required] hope you have a stuck on sunny weathervane Wednesday!Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12
