Hi all,
I've just received an invoice from a plumber I used in 2015 saying an invoice is outstanding.
I've just received an invoice from a plumber I used in 2015 saying an invoice is outstanding.
I know I’ve paid this and also had him back in 2018 (which he’s also questioned), so why would I have the cheek to do this and why would they carry out the work.
They’re saying they have a new system and it’s flagged unpaid invoices, but to tell them if, when and how this was paid.
I’ve switched banks numerous times and also changed phones (losing texts) etc, eo I’m struggling to find how I can trace this. I also could have paid it in a number of ways too. I have the invoice from the time and also have it in my property expenses for that year and 2018.
I’m so annoyed it was just a generate invoice through quick books and so unprofessional.
I’m an honest person and know I have paid this.
Thanks

So just tell him you've paid it, and in the unlikely event he pursues it through court action put together what evidence you have. How much money are we talking about?

All I have is emails from the time with the invoice and then it down in my expenses sheet. My argument would be why wait 5 years and then come back and then also say the 2018 one too.The amount in total would be around £650-700
thanks0 -
They have up to six years to claim it from you. As advised, it's your choice. Either put in the legwork to establish definitively that you paid, or refuse and see what happens. If it goes to court you'll need to put that work in anyway. If you can't or don't want to supply evidence, it will come down to whether or not the plumber chooses to pursue it and if they do, whether or not the court believes you.0
