Leaky oil tank

Hello all, was sweeping round my oil tank the other day and must have knocked the glass jar type thing as discovered a slow drip coming out of it today.
I tried turning it as tight as I could but there must be a seal or gasket away in it as just touching it makes the oil fly out of it.
Any tips for getting it sealed again as to be honest am waiting to get the whole lot taken out and replaced by gas and want to spend as little on it as possible. Could trying to work silicone or some sort of paste round the joint work?

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon, but is there an isolation valve between the tank and the part you dislodged? If so could you turn that off to let you have a better go at re-aligning it?

I would say the o-ring has failed where the glass tube (which is presumably a gauge) screws into the pipe. Replacement o-rings are pennies, but you have to know the size. Google might help you find out, or you'll have to turn off the supply and remove the gauge to find out. For example, Toolstation offer a box of 85 o-rings of different sizes for £2.20. May all be too small though, but you get the idea. Of course, you'll be without oil once it is turned off until you get a new o-ring. It's not worth trying to seal it with silicone if you can find an o-ring about the right size. Don't over tighten it if/when you get a new one!

OP is it leaking at the filter or the sight glass, which is usually plastic tube? The whole outlet seems oilyThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon1

If the drip-rate is slow, just keep a drip-tray under the leak and relax.
You could do more harm than good if you insist on fixing it.1 -
Decided on that path as it was maybe only 3 drips per day and the whole outlet is ancient and suspectMoss5 said:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Element-Bowl-O-ring-for-Plastic-Bowl-Oil-Filter-Heating-Boiler/301768826711?_trkparms=aid%3D1110012%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOIPOST%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225114%26meid%3Df922402feacc47d79e500b42838af826%26pid%3D100008%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D291590553926%26itm%3D301768826711%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedSellersOtherItemsV2%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219
