Hotels in June

Hello, I may not be alone, but I found some aspects of the announcement by Boris on Sunday and Monday rather confusing.
We have a hotel booked on a non-refundable early bird rate for middle of June. England location. Up until now (and indeed still on their website), the hotel had said they are working to the assumption of re-opening 1st June and still allowing bookings from that date.
I think the announcement from Boris inferred that the earliest that hotels would be allowed to re-open is 1st July. If that is the correct interpretation of the announcement, then I am happy for a bit to wait while the hotel catches up with things and adjusts their assumed re-opening date etc. and presumably they will just contact us and cancel / refund us when they are up to date.

The hotel did eventually e-mail me to advise that the booking for June is cancelled (by them) because they will be closed.
The e-mail said to request a refund through their on-line system or, if not possible to e-mail them back. The online refund system was not functioning so I e-mailed. The hotel has now e-mailed to confirm my cancellation of the booking and that it will take longer than usual to process a refund and they cannot specify a timeline to refund the money.
Do I just sit tight and wait?
The original booking was the 'non-refundable and non-transferable' policy, but that should not apply in circumstances such as this, especially since the hotel originally cancelled my booking and not vice-versa.0 -
It might be just a auto reply saying you cancelled.Grumpy_chap said:

I would just wait a little while
Non-refundable, always applies to if you cancel, never if they cancel.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Hooray! Got my money back to the credit card today. Now to sit tight and wit until we can book somewhere else for a break - maybe Weymouth?0
