Can Credit Reference Agencies cross reference Card Payment Details

When I first moved into my flat,  I became aware that my address, the block of flats is “ Red Lined”  which means all applications for credit, mobile phones, bank accounts etc are automatically rejected because of the address.
On a number occasions, when my bank has discontinued one bank account and insisted I must apply for one of their new accounts, despite banking with them for at least 20 years, my application is always rejected, until I show I have no CCJ’s or a poor credit history by applying for and showing the bank my Credit Files.
I’ve got round this by registering my Bank Account, Credit Cards etc at my parents address and I pay all my bills for my flat, such as Utilities, Council Tax etc by cash at the Post Office.

However, since the Coronavirus and as I’m carer for my elderly parents, with both myself and my parents with underlying health issues, I’ve remained at my parent home for the last 6 weeks and not ventured out but now my Council Tax & Utilitities bills for my flat are due.

Therefore, would I be jeopardising my squeaky clean Credit History if I paid the bills for my flat with a Debit Card, in my name but registered at my parents address ?

  • I'm sorry, but your post makes no sense.
Credit records are on the person, not the property. I work in financial services and have never heard of addresses being "red lined" so all applications from anyone at those addresses are rejected.
Also, if you are lying about your residence, you are committing fraud. What do your 3 credit agency reports say?

    Addresses don’t get blacklisted - there’s no
    such thing.

It’s my Bank which told me the address is “red lined“ and apparently it’s against whatever rules there is and it happens.
Also, it was mail order catalogues that started it by drawing a red line through an entire post code of a particular area or an address, where they’ve had far too many unpaid orders.

Since I’ve been at my flat, my Bank has either closed or upgraded my Bank Account at least 3 times and on each occasion I’ve had to reapply for the new account and all applications have been rejected, until I provided my Credit Reference files, which the Bank suggested I apply for.

In my opinion, I’ve have an impeccable credit history, no missed or late payments, no defaults, no CCJs and I’m on the electoral register at my flat .

My credit cards, there’s only ever a small outstanding balance and they’re paid in full at the end of each month.
I don’t have any loans or credit agreement only credits cards & my flat is rented.

I can’t see how I’m being fraudulent, I can be contacted at the address provided for my Bank Account and Credits Cards, all of which are in my name and using my date of birth, which hasn’t been a problem for at least 18 years; it’s not as if I’m going on a spending spree and not making payments.

However. I was wondering whether paying my Council Tax monthly payment and Utility Bills with my debit card registered to a different address to my flat, will it link my debit card to my flat and jeopardise my Credit History

if you're that worried about it do what you've been doing for the past few years, pay the bills at the post office.

That's entirely different to a credit blacklist.  It's to do with high theft rates and the profile of people they want as a customer.

Your address will have no  impact on your credit eligibility.

I am that worried but I’m also worried about going to the Post Office; the risk of catching the Coronavirus and the risk of infecting my elderly parents, who, like myself, both have underlying health issues.

It’s not all blocks of flats are automatically “red lined.”

The Bank described it, as either an entire street, address or post code can be red lined; when too many unpaid orders are made and it’s a tactic used by mail order catalogues.

Whether it just my address or the entire postcode that’s been red lined, I don’t know.

you're going to catch it eventually anyway.  it's not going away and the chance of a vaccine is next to zero.
keep your fingers out of your mouth, nose and eyes and you'll be fine.

You don't need to know.  Mail order companies don't take in certain customer groups.

It's nothing to do with it being 'all blocks of flats'.
