I've never had a problem with mayonnaise going mouldy but am off to check a jar of pesto that's been in my fridge for...ummm...a few years.

I opened a sealed jar of jam with a best before date of June 2011 a few weeks ago, still tastes fine.

You can buy the little catering sachets of some things on Amazon. It's quite a lot more expensive - or is it? - when I've had to throw away jars which haven't had much out of them; do that a few times and the costs of the initially better value supermarket jars adds up. And I don't throw things away lightly.Frogletina said:I wish you could buy smaller portions. We often pick up catering size packs of jam in the pound stores, got some in B and M this week, means we can buy flavours we might not eat as often but they do get used now and again. EG using a small amount of apricot for a cake or having a croissant brekkie at weekend occasionally.

Scala do pesto in little pots. Managed to get a few of the green pesto when they down to 10p clearance in Sainsburys before covid last year. They are 45g per pot and get 2 per pack. Though its very expensive way of buying it normally. RRP for these are £1.50. You can get supermarket own label pesto for 50% cheaper and get 50% moreFrogletina said:I wish you could buy smaller portions. That makes it a difficult choice. Pay more for less or waste half of itod244051 said:

Big difference between 'best before' and 'eat by'. 🤔1

I got a few bags of groceries today, all dated best before midnight. Some went into the freezer. We should be able to eat the rest before the end of the week. I didn't spend much money so it's not a huge problem if something goes off.
One pack that I left on the shelf was bulging but the label said that it was ok to eat before midnight. I would rather eat something that is past it's date but still looks good.2
