Glyphosate, be careful and don't expect to work in a week.1

Mature leaves can be quite resistant, but I've used glyphosate with great effect on ivy.1

Finding the point at which the main branches enter the soil and cutting it there is very effective. Subsequent growth will be soft and easy to treat with a glyphosate weedkiller, which should translocate to the roots and kill them. There will be some re-growth likely, but persistence is rewarded.Long, more minor strands of ivy are usually very easy to pull up. I've just pulled a lot from my stream banks, which are natural and where weedkiller isn't an option..0

Roundup now do a non glyphosate weed killer I'm sure your all interested.0

Well, Monsanto had to invent something, because their patent on glyphosate expired ages ago and they make no money from rival cheap generics. The cancer threat from glyphosate was possibly an issue for them too, I'm sure. Being about the same as eating barbecued sausages it obviously scared some people shirtless.roddydogs said:Roundup now do a non glyphosate weed killer I'm sure your all interested.

Glyphosate is good where there may be aquatics. However, all professional herbicides that kill and control ivy contain triclopyr...(the main ingredient in sbk.) It will kill it quicker2

Yes, just don't compost anything treated with that stuff as it sticks around, but is better than the earlier aminopyralid and clopyralid in this respect..Justagardener said:Glyphosate is good where there may be aquatics. Ivy is great for wildlife, bees and insects as well as birds. It makes great ground cover too.1

Sadly it’s got to go. It’s got stems as thick as my forearm and is completely taking over the garden0
