Very. Am I entitled to a refund/swap for a faulty table?

Options
Hi,
I bought a table from Very 10 months ago. The quality of the table in my opinion is less than satisfactory. I'm not one for returning things or looking for money back but it was suggested I should go down this route by a family member.
The table has worn pretty badly in the middle and the surface is peeling off, the leather effect chairs are the same. The table is also discoloured and faded and the chair leg protectors are snapping off. We believe we have taken good care of this table but it seems as if the wear and tear is beyond our control.

I have contacted Very and they claim that because we didn't take out their product protection then we aren't entitled to any refund.
I'm not satisfied that this table has lasted a reasonable length of time but Very aren't entertaining my complaint and saying it has no warranty.
I don't think i should have to throw out a table after having it less than a year.
So am I entitled to get a refund for this table and if so, how should I go about it?

Thank you!

Get an independent inspection done and if that shows that there is an inherent flaw or defect in the table's construction or materials, Very have to do something about it.  That may be a repair, a replacement or a refund, tempered by the use you've had to date.

    Thanks for your quick replies.
The table and chairs came together and they were approximately £300. I can't tell exactly how much on the site as they were part of a purchase of a few things and there is no cost breakdown there.
Is an inspection worth the cost compared to the cost of the item?

Only you can determine that once you know the cost.  There's also the possible difficulty of finding someone prepared to come out to your house to carry it out.  If the report suggests the table is flawed, then you can claim the cost of the inspection from the retailer.  If not, it's a cost you bear.  The symptoms you're describing sound heat/light related - it's not used in a conservatory by any chance, is it?

Personally, for a table and chairs that cost £300, my expectations would be low to start with.  If an inspection cost something like £75 I wouldn't bother because even if you get the result you want, a repair sounds out of the question, a replacement will probably be just as poor quality and a partial refund might be £150.

My expectations were low but not that low. I didn't think it would be damaged to the extent it was in that short space of time considering there are only two of us using it, rarely and we keep it clean.
It is kept in a dining room and not exposed to any outside light.
    I appreciate your help.

When you say keep it clean, could it be that a product you are using has affected durability?  You say the 'surface is peeling off' what sort of finish / construction material is it?

I'm not clued up on the material type but it appears to be like an MDF surface covered in a sort of laminate material to give it a marble effect finish. It is only cleaned with a bleach free spray or surface wipes/ wet cloth.

Very have now offered to collect the furniture and issue a refund, pending investigation, after seeing photos of the table.

That's good.  Take plenty of photos of all of it before it's collected.
