Sample Wedding Dress Deposit Dispute

Afternoon All,
I paid a deposit for a wedding dress in January. The shop is now closed and could not provide alterations to the dress as discussed in April. They also have the dress with them. I requested a Refund and they told me it is non-refundable. But it was "of the shelf" sample dress, not a bespoke product and this was not made clear to me on purchase. They are also demanding I pay for the full dress when I decide to come back to them. I paid this on my Visa Debit card. Is it possible to retrieve this money back? As I have not received a product or service for the money paid and they can't even tell me when they can provide it.
Thank you

Were any terms and conditions posted on their website? Do you have your own copy of the form you signed?

At the moment, as I understand it, all non essential shops have to shut - so they are not shut voluntarily.
How were the discussions regarding the alterations carried out as April would have been after the initial lockdown ….personally I wouldn't want any alterations made without a face to face consultation whilst I was trying on the dress to ensure that everyone was happy with them.
When the shop is able to open you'll be able to go and get your dress as presumably you'll still need it.
