Renewing Driving Licence via post

I had a letter from DVLA just prior to lockdown that my driving licence card was due for renewal. I was unable to update this online as my driving licence is in my maiden name and my passport is still in my married name (I changed my driving licence but not my passport which is allowed). I posted off my renewal paperwork just as lockdown started and as advised by DVLA. Since then, I have heard nothing in 6 weeks. I have tried emailing DVLA for clarification but no luck. My licence is due to expire next week and I am now unsure whether I am legal to drive. MY application is with DVLA but their website says they are no longer accepting licence applications by post.
Does anyone have any idea as to whether I am ok to carry on driving  whilst I don't have a renewed licence? Thank you
