Still no pay..

Really worried and wondering if anyone can help me. I work in Northern Ireland so timeline is slightly different here regarding furlough but not by much . I was put on furlough the end of March. As a monthly paid member of staff I was expecting pay on 1st of April. Never arrived, employer told me the company didn't have any money to pay us. And now I've not been paid April's pay either. I phone this employer on a weekly basis and just keep getting told that their accountant is looking into it. He is friendly but that's no good to me. They applied for a loan in April and it was to be approved on 20th of April. I'm owed over 2 months pay now (1 full month for March and 1 furloughed month for April) and not received a penny. Is there anyway to check what's going on besides taking my employer at his word? My family a I are surviving just by skin of our teeth. Employer phoned me last week and told me to "apply for whatever benefits you can" as there's still no sign of the loan coming through. I told him I couldn't as my family and working tax credits would be suspended while they investigate so we decided that some money trickling in week by week is better than nothing. I have now gone over the overdraft that my bank gave me and I'm racking up charges and fees for non paid direct debits. Any surplus my wife had from her part time job has now been funneled into my debits. The barrel has run dry now.
Anyone any ideas at all what to do?

I just answered on another thread that you posted on. Your employer will need to have paid you first before claiming for furlough. As you haven't received any money then it's unlikely that you will now. There's also no way of checking either. If you do apply for UC then do be aware that your tax credits will stop and you won't be able to reclaim them in the future.1

Oh I've worked for this company for over 2 years, sorry for the confusion.
I didn't think my reply on the other post had posted hence why a posted here.

There have been a few cases where employers have run payroll but not paid employees. This would have an impact on universal credit, although as tax credits are being claimed that may not matter in the short term. If you switched to universal credit, your tax credit claim would stop permanently, and if your employer is putting a wage through payroll, you might not get any universal credit either. You are entitled to be paid under your contract of employment, which presumably has been amended to reduce your pay to what can be claimed under furlough? The accountant "looking into it" is just an excuse. See:

If they are a local employer it might be worth getting your MP involved.1
