Pay on credit or debit card?

I was under the impression that as long as part of my holiday cost us paid for by credit card, it shouldn't be a problem to get a refund if the holiday company goes bust.
I have a holiday balance due this week for a holiday in August which I'm hoping to change to next year, however I have to pay the balance now as I can't get through to Virgin.
I've already paid a few thousand on credit card but don't have the credit on that card to cover the balance. If Virgin go bust will I have a problem getting my money back if I pay the balance by debit card?

No, even if you paid just 1p on a credit card the whole amount is covered.
If it's a holiday you should have a ATOL cert.
