O/S Daily Tuesday 12 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sun trying to shine, but a cold and slightly frosty start to the morning here, not so blustery either.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had baked fish and veg. Not sure what we'll be having tonight - but have good stocks so will be able to find something.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
Sorry for my absence but I have been bitten hard by the black dog. I feel so much better now though and ready to resume my life. Today is a nice bright day and that really helps my mood too. Jemima came to see me with the grandchildren and I know we broke the lockdown rules but it gave me such a massive boost and really helped her too. Her marriage unfortunately is breaking down but they are trying to be civil to each other until he can find somewhere else to live. I am worried about her but she is a really strong woman and will cope well with being a single mum again. Meanwhile, she and the grandchildren really need us so we are going to help as much as we can.
Guess what, I am dieting again. Oh no I can hear you all rolling your eyes from here
The weight has been creeping on and I want to stop it before it becomes an avalanche of flab so I am trying Slimming World again. Obviously there are no meetings at the moment so I have joined online. I was very pleased to find out I had lost over 3 stone since the last time I signed into my account many months ago. There will be changes made at home as well as I want to take control back over what I am eating so with Lee's help, we will be doing the majority of the cooking and meal planning. Steve is off to the supermarket this morning to stock up on fruit and veg so I can have a proper go at it.
Right, I am off for some breakfast and to meal plan for the rest of the week. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Thanks nmlc. I've been wakening early the last couple of days, yesterday it was very early and I was tired all day.
We watched Hospital last night about the coronavirus at the Royal Free. It was both shocking and inspiring but I didn't find it too scary, I'd recommend it heartily. We're going to still continue being very cautious but I find it strange that we could meet Chris in a park that may be filled with other people but not in our private garden where we could stay 2m apart with no trouble.
Esben went into his own room last night. Laura's hoping it will stop him waking as much. We'll see.
I'm going to make some face masks today, for us and for the wider family that I will post out if I can order the postage online. Apart from that the day will follow the days of the last seven weeks.13 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a beautiful morning here, chilly no doubt but brilliant sunshine. Not a lot happening here today, except an elderly friend has asked me to get some things at a local butchers, she's over 80 and sheilded. so I'll do that. She wants me to freeze them, so if I get them today we'll take them tomorrow, she only lives a short drive away.Apart from that I'll just be doing odd jobs - did my ironing yesterday, but no cardmaking, so that's on the agenda.I've got a bag for the charity shop for when they open - I don't suppose they'll be the first shops to open, but when they do they'll be inundated, everybody I know has been clearing and sorting!!I walked up to Ald* yesterday, only needed bread and eggs, but I hadn't been to Ald* for a while, so it was a change and a walk.TA, hope you are feeling better. Must admit, I'm a bit all over the place myself, I think a lot of people are - one minute I'm optimistic and thinking everything will be ok, then minutes later I've hit rock bottom convinced we're all doomed. Maybe it will be somewhere in the middle.Hope everyone has a good Tuesday anyway, take care folks.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels a bit chilly but the sun has got his hat on so I think I had better strip my bedding off and get that out on the line. No rain forecast.
DD said the funeral yesterday was overwhelmingly sad. Quite a few relatives and close friends had assembled outside the cemetery to await the arrival of the hearse, whilst the permitted 10 were safely distanced outside the crematorium with the doors open so they would be able to hear the chosen music and the priest's words. A lady came over to those outside and said there was an extra canopy down the side where another dozen could stand safely distanced and hear the service, which was a lovely thing for them to do. So DD, the DGDs and a couple more relatives were able to go in and listen. There were many tears shed and, of course, nobody could hug and console anybody else. She sad it was the saddest funeral she had ever been to.due to the circumstances. It was agreed that everyone would light a candle at 8.00 last night and remember J. I lit one too.
I rang my DB afterwards as he was supposed to be getting the result of the scan. SIL answered and said he was in so much pain he wasn't up to talking to anyone. She said there was no sign of the doctor with the result when they went to their hospital appt. It was just the nurse who had upset them both last week with her attitude. SIL is going to try and get hold of the secretary today and find out exactly what's going on. The IV a/b treatment is still being administered at home but seems to be having no effect.
Oh well that's the sad and bad news out of the way. Not a lot of excitement planned for me today. It's now Groundhog Day 58 and still the same old same old. I had a phone call from someone at the surgery yesterday checking on how I was coping with isolation. I think she must think I am about 95 the questions she asked! Was I managing to cook my meals, get access to groceries, do my washing, cleaning etc have telephone contact with anybody, feel depressed, anxious etc. I did by the time she had finished but I suppose she meant well!!
I couldn't join in with my exercises yesterday! Young lad didn't appear until tea-time to attack his punchbag and skip and I was just sitting down to eat! I shall have to ask him what time he is planning today and work my meals round him! Have a good day if you can folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care and stay safe xx

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Dumpling, don't beat yourself up, I can imagine how hard it must be to be apart from family for so long and hopefully this will have given you a bit of a boost. And what's done is done.
I was not particularly productive yesterday, other than making some therapy items for a friend. I returned the compost to the bin but I think it will have to be garden waste only from now on. Overnight the rats have taken out a bit of fruit peel but no more than that since I didn't take the peelings down yesterday. They really are getting very bold, one is on the bird table right now and earlier it was sent packing by a squirrel. Saw very few birds yesterday and the day before, possibly as the winds were so high but it is calmer today and I've had a pleasant time watching the robins, sparrows and a blackbird. Two magpies in a tree as well. A month or so back I saw a gathering of 12 of them and wondered if that had meaning as the rhyme goes only to 7 I think.
Today I'll change bedlinen and I might even do a little light hoovering, if I can summon up the energy. I'm a bit tired after a night filled with strange and scary dreams, then one which could have only been wish-fulfilment as I got a little cat in that one.
Mr portly the pigeon has just arrived, he is now virtually spherical.
I wish everyone a pleasant day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Lovely and sunny this morning and the wind seems to have died down. I slept really well last night, think I wore myself out decorating! It's all finished, just need to put the furniture back in place and clear up the mess from the rest of upstairs. Once the shops are open I'll have to have a look for new curtains, not sure the ones I have particularly go with the new decor and I broke the blind getting it off so will have to order a new one. These are things that can wait, just glad to get it all done.
It's my Uncle's funeral today, only 8 allowed to go and sadly my elderly Aunt is unable to go as there's nobody to take her and she won't get a (sensibly) taxi. I'll phone her later to see how she is.
Off to the allotment this morning, the broccoli really must go into the ground as the plants are quite big, will give everything a good water whilst I'm there.
Hope you all have as good a day as possible. Take care. XX

Morning all.
Brrrr! This is a bit of a shock to the system after the glorious warm days of the past weeks.
I don't know about you, but I'm still trying to make sense of the new rules for getting out and about. The idea of schools opening for the youngest children. I saw it mentioned that young children only got the virus mildly. So they might, but they are brilliant carriers to people who DON'T get it mildly, and good luck to the teachers trying to keep small children socially distanced.
Apart from that, today will be more of the same. I must make bread today, and two fruit cakes. One for the neighbour who came round and strimmed my weeds down in the garden and one for my bachelor friend who has a birthday this week. I may even get the vacuum out. Or I may not.
dumpling, be gentle with yourself. These great diet plans are fine, but probably you will be on a high for the first week or two, but then you cave in, eat something you shouldn't, hate yourself so have a binge and then depression sets in again. Ask me how I know that? You are such a brave and interesting person. I wish I knew you in real life.
TA, good luck with the virtual exercise. I love it! Keep fit by proxy.
OK. Let battle commence.

Morning everyone
It was so cold here yesterday and then warm enough to sit in the back doorway with my book in the afternoon.
Monnagran - one of my jobs is in a nursery and I'm really hoping we don't go back till September. There's no way we can keep 2 to 4 year olds apart....and surely all the toys etc are going to be covered in germs?
Other job is in a hotel, so that seems to be starting work again in July at the earliest.
I'm lucky as I'm getting paid from both.
Snoozer - my DD has been bringing little grand daughter up to see me in the garden every few days. Just for about 10 minutes as little one starts to want me and want in the house and we stay 2 metres apart all the time. We've never touched each other and I haven't touched little one....and I really don't see it's doing any harm. Same with my mam and dad - we sit outside, further apart than we have to, and have a chat - I think it's kept us all sane. It's certainly kept me going as otherwise I would see no-one at all. My dad's dementia is worse now than when this first started - I dread to think what he'd be like if he'd had no company at all.
Anyways, I better move
hope everyone has a good day

Cold and wet here this morning but as someone on another forum commented we are at the days of the ice saints and it is often cold around now.
We went to the supermarket early this morning so there was no queue.DH waited in the car while I went in. No flour as usual but I did get some sachets of yeast. I wore my home made mask for the first time. Only a couple of people were wearing masks or gloves.
Skyped the grandchildren last night. We haven't seen them since Christmas. They were supposed to be coming up for a week at Easter but of course that was cancelled. DD is longing to get back to work. DGD is coping well with homeschooling but DGD is only 18 months and quite a handful. DD is finding it very hard trying to work from home and look after her.14 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here and the wind has dropped thank goodness yesterday was very cold and windy with branches coming down all over the place, I did not go out on my bike as I did not think it wise, will try again today.
OH is going to Aldi to do a weeks shop, we have been getting bits from the local shop when we need them but its so expensive so we need to go back to a weekly one.
We are still not sure when OH is going back to work it might be tomorrow but might be next week its just a case of wait and see !!
Salmon for dinner tonight with jersey royals and some asparagus, which I am really looking forward to, will have a quick clean through while OH is at shops.
I made cheese scones yesterday and we all had one for lunch, they were delicious but no good at all for ones diet, I too have put on weight and must work at getting it off !!
Have good days all and hugs to dumpling xxx13
