covid 19 wedding advice

Just wanted a bit of advice for my friend. She was due to get married in august this year but due to the covid 19 she’s rebooked the wedding for september next year, to make sure that her family that lives overseas can make it and that she can have all her loved ones with her. Everything is rebooked at the venue for next year but the wedding decorators have asked her to pay off the full balance of what she would owe and isn’t sure what to do or where she stands with it. Does she pay the final balance of it all and run the risk of this company maybe going bust due to all of this or pay a bit more of it or none at all till nearer the big day. All she paid so far is the deposit of the price they had wanted to secure the date. She also doesn’t have any wedding insurance

Time for friend to read t/c.
I would take it that not paying the balance would be taken that they are cancelling the agreement.Life in the slow lane1 -
Assuming the contractual amount is >£100 and she hasn't paid the deposit by credit card, pay (at least some of) the balance by CC. That way if the company folds in the meantime then she'll have Section 75 protection. This mean the CC company are jointly liable with the seller for the performance of the contract, so she'll either get her money back or the contract completed by another company.4

Very difficult . About time mse stepped up to the plate with a thread about weddings imho0

So the 'wedding decorators' (?) haven't been rebooked. To do so, they want full payment for something that's more than a year away, when their normal way of business is to take a deposit & then full payment (when?)
What are they doing if you wanted to book for a new wedding this time next year?0 -

Are they aware it has been moved?Life in the slow lane1 -
my friend doesn’t have a contract or any terms and conditions it’s just an invoice that they gave her. The room decorators are aware that the wedding has been now postponed to September next year due to everything that is going on with covid and have still asked for the full payment to be paid for the date when she was going to get married in august of this year

Looks like the company are trying to maximise income so they can try to stay afloat. That's why I effectively asked how (i.e. by what method) any payment had been made.0

Maybe cancel it now, or negotiate with them to wait for 2 or 3 months to see how will the Covid is controlled at that time, then you can make a clear decision. Now everything is unclear and uncontrolled, nobody knows what is going to happen in the coming future. To pay full balance could be a huge risk now.
