Unable to change energy suppliers
I went on a comparison site to change my energy suppliers. I found one which should save me £196 a year. Great I thought, I filled all the details to change and got their confirmation. Today I received an email saying that they were sorry but they could not become our supplier because we had the wrong type of smart meter.
So I've looked again but no company are any where near them for savings.
Is there any way I can get my present suppler to change my meter because I am unable to change suppliers because of it.
Any advice please.

Who is your current supplier, and what tariff are you currently on?chrispy1 said:I went on a comparison site to change my energy suppliers. I found one which should save me £196 a year. If the £196 is the savings quoted on a comparison site then take that figure with a huge pinch of salt.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

My present supplier is Ebico and I'm on a prepayment tariff. Yes I know that's expensive, but we're retiring soon and don't and want to go on direct debit till we know how much we'll be getting.Biscuit_Tin said:

You are only going to be with them for a few days or weeks , as you know your consumption and last years costs you can estimate the DD and that will be as good a guess as Ebico will make.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

With the smart meters you have that currently are used by Ebico to supply you on their Ebico Prepay tariff, there should be no issues with switching to any other supplier suggested by a comparison site on a PPM tariff.chrispy1 said:

Ask the supplier of your choice what particularly they see as a problem with the existing smart meters you have.
You may also wish to try the second preferred supplier of your choice, as they probably will save you almost as much, and may not have any issues with your existing meters.
Or ask Ebico to put your smart meter into credit mode (they can do this remotely, but may first require a credit check) and then apply to switch to another supplier's credit tariff. There are lots of credit tariffs that do not rquire payment via direct debit. Such tariffs will probably not be as cheap as paying via D, but should still give you comparable or better savings to what you are considering.
