If you know the name of the company is it possible you could contact the company and ask them to look into it0

There’s some hope, then - a large company should at least return it. It may have it on its own suspense account, not knowing what to do with it (perhaps someone different in their Accounts dept. is dealing with your month 7). On the assumption you don’t know the identity of the company, have you tried googling the account details- you may get lucky that way? Your backstop would be to write to your bank asking them to forward an enclosed sealed and stamped letter to their customer (said sealed letter, of course, asking for them to send the money to you). I worked in Accounts, and used this technique successfully on a number of occasions to identify unreferenced money that turned up in the company’s bank account - getting the payer to contact me.

That's an excellent idea Steve! And digalumps, I did ask natwest for the name of the company but they started going on about client confidentiality. I will definitely get on to the bank though and ask whether they would forward an open letter or email to the receiving company. Because they've returned 2 payments, I've always assumed that not returning the 3rd was/is an oversight. I shall get on to that first thing in the morning, it's certainly worth a try 😊0

Good luck, Liz. Let us know how you get on!1

Unfortunately there is little you can do, especially if the amount wasn't huge as it'll cost you more.
In future you should check payments each time for a new one that's been set up for the first few times to ensure these issues don't arise.0 -
The wonders of modern banking that give instant notifications when money goes in and goes out of an account. Would have picked up this issue straight away.
Also very surprised you haven't looked at your online banking for over 3 months.0 -
lizderby said:Hi Steve... yes, it's a valid account so I'm told and it belongs to 'a very large company' in my home town. What I can't understand is why months 6 and 8 would be returned but not month 7. That just seems quite odd to me as the receiving account knows that the payments were made in error 🤷♀️
How do you know this?
And do you know the identity of this company? If so, how did you find that out?0 -
Penners I did say previously why I didn't feel there was a problem, also, I had been employed at the place for the previous 2 1/2 years as an agency worker before getting a permanent role there so it just didn't occur to me that it wouldn't be a smooth process. Which, in fact, it would have been if I hadn't made an error. Lesson learned there though.0
