Shielding

hi all had a letter from my consultant stating I am at high risk so my work furloughed me I am working on assumption that shielding will finish in June after the 12 weeks if it does not will I still be furloughed or will something be put in its place???

    You will need to ask your employer regarding that.

    Shielding was never on its own the sole criteria for furlough so if I’m honest I would expect it to revert to SSP which is payable for those shielding.

    They have not set any information out yet what happens after the 12 weeks. I guess they will leave it a little to see what happens as still a few more weeks yet.
  • My partner has just started chemotherapy and my boss wants me to go back to work repairing cars. He doesn't take the precautions about distancing etc seriously.  Is there any help from government if I stay at home?

    It will depend on your circumstances. Savings/capital of more than £16,000 will exclude you from claiming UC. Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement.
    A claim for UC will end any tax credits you may already be claiming.

    You can still go to work if live with somebody shielding. I do and a fair few others on here do as well, you just need to be extra careful. But this could go on for potentially a year, you can't stay in for all that time.
