Paying rent with a credit card - is this a big red flag?

in Credit cards
Hi All,
I pay my rent monthly via a portal with the estate agent, which allows me to pay by card without any fees (credit or debit).
It's just occurred to me that maybe I should be paying this via a credit card to get rewards as it's over £1,000 pcm.
Would there be any repercussions for this? In particular, negative impact on credit score etc.
Thanks

The items you buy on your credit card have no impact whatsoever on your credit score.
Lenders report the balance and the payment history and any defaults. Not what you are buying.

This is good to know. I've sometimes paid my rent through a company called allpay.com and noticed that they also handle payments for things like magistrates court fines, arrears and suchlike. I was worried this would look bad as a payment on my credit or debit card.0

Allpay charge you handsomely to be able to use a credit card as a debit card. As this far outweighs and potential benefits of using a credit card I think you should be honest with yourself about your position. You should not be paying rent on credit. If you don't have enough money for rent then post an SOA in the deft free wannabe board.1

Agree with the above. No problem at all paying rent with a credit card. I pay weekly, and clear my Barclaycard Cashback in full each month by direct debit.0

The only way it could possibly affect your credit history is if you used your credit card to withdraw cash and pay rent that way.
However in the medium term future, some of these payment portals may be recoded as "cash-like" transactions and these may start to be reported on credit reports, and you may get charged interest or even cash advance fees by some credit cards. If they don't currently charge any cash advance fees or interest then it would be safe to say there is no effect on credit reports at the moment.0
