Replace single window

Options

Got a quote from a window fitter £760 for a uPVC A rated window. Small/medium size. Says it can be fitted from inside.

The price sounds really high (I’m up north) had another quote where the guy insisted it would have to be a mini bay and need scaffolding to fit... £1400.

Bit restricted on getting further quotes due to lockdown, don’t want loads more people coming to quote. The guy asking for £760 has it all measured and is ready to order it.

Depends on the number of openings, colour, and finish. But £760 sounds a bit on the high side.
Had two upstairs windows done at the beginning of the year (1800mm x 1300mm & 1000mm x 1300mm) for just over £1100. Most of the work was done from inside, but some of it had to be done off a ladder from outside.

Just measured and it’s 1110 X 1450 with two openings. Existing window is oriel style so perhaps there’s some making good that he’s added on. I suspect that replacing just one window will always be costlier than multiple in order to make it worthwhile for him. I did like the guy though.

The guy doing my windows, whilst not the cheapest or the quickest, is doing the job in stages. I'm more than happy with the work he has done to date and consults with me when there is a problem that needs resolving. e.g. Gaping holes left in the walls when the windows had been replaced back in the 1970s. Many fitters would have just filled the voids with expanding foam or slapped a load of cement in. He consulted me and agreed to fill the holes with brick bedded in with lime mortar.
Price isn't always the overriding factor - Go for someone you feel you can trust.
