O/S Daily Monday 11 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy, blustery and cold start to the day.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was a roast chicken, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight will be either fish or pork escalopes with either jacket potato or chips.
Back to work today for me, although I'm a key worker so have been working all the way through this but I'm pleased to be working and have that little bit of normality and structure to my days/weeks. Work is not normal though.
We were lazy again this weekend but now things seem to be starting to move.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
TA I am glad to see you are back, but sorry that you have had a bad time. It does seem endless, doesn't it.
I got very little done yesterday, it was really cold and although the sun is shining, still is cold with a bitter wind. I think I may need to make some sort of stone or whatever solid base for the compost bin but that will mean that the worms can't do their job. The base is now surrounded by what those naughty rats have fished out. I don't mind them, they have been here longer than me and there is a stream at the bottom of the garden so they will always be here, I just wanted compost. It might have to be just non food compost. There is one rat eating the birdseed now, on the birdtable, and I've seen no mice, bet they have been eaten.
Last night's dinner was spaghetti carbonara with salad, I like making that and it is not something we have too often as OH likes his meat. DS has to have meat so he had posh organic sausages.
I think I'll wash the floor now, before anyone else gets up and wants to walk about. The sheer cheek of wanting to traverse the floor.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning folks. Brr back to winter. No frost but we have just had snow flurries to remind us not to get too complacent yet! Though the sun is now shining which is an improvement on the drabness of yesterday.
It's the funeral today of DD's young SIL. Just immediate family will make up the permitted 10 to attend the crematorium but DD and the girls and a few other relatives are going to distance outside the gates to the cemetery for the arrival of the hearse, the next best thing to attending I suppose, Her DH is not coping well at all. They had only been married 18 months. It's so very sad.
It's all change at work now for DD. The empty wing of the Resource Centre where she works is now going to be used for recovering Covid sufferers when they are discharged from hospital. After 2 weeks they will either go home if fit enough, or into one of the spare rooms in the rest of the centre. All staff involved will have a test before this starts and again after their 2 week stint on this wing and be in full PPE gear.. It's all very worrying. DD is not a worrier like me and is just taking this in her stride.
DS is finally starting his new job today, 5 weeks late! The place isn't opening to all the staff, just enough of them to be able to distance themselves. The boss thought it would be good time for DS to start when it's reasonably quiet and he can spend time with him. Fingers crossed for him too. I just hope the boss is strict about distancing.
Have a good day folks if you can and thank you for missing me! ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care and stay safe xxx

Good morning, and thanks NMLC.It's fine and sunny here at the moment, but the sky is grey over towards the north. It's cold, as was yesterday. We've had a quiet weekend, DH fitted some new wall lights in the sitting room alcoves, they look lovely.Over the time of the lockdown we've ordered a few things to be delivered, and we're still not sure whether we're doing right. On one hand we've ordered things that are not essential, i. e. these lights, on the other hand it's a job for the delivery drivers - they leave stuff on the doorstep, ring the bell and go to the gate so they're over the required 2 mtr away.I just don't know. I know others do it, I see the delivery vans in the street.TA sorry to hear you've been feeling down, it's this situation isn't it. You try and keep cheerful and plod on, but it's hard sometimes. I worry about our grandchildren and the world they'll inherit.Today, what delights does today hold - I'll have to buy bread and eggs, so a supermarket visit is on the cards. We might combine that with a walk, we'll see how the weather goes. We had a a walk yesterday, brr it was cold, I'm back in my winter coat!I should make a couple of cards as well. there's a few family birthdays this month.Just had a hailstone shower here, probably more of the same on the way.Anyway I'll stop waffling on and wish everyone a good day, thinking of you all.Take care folks12

Chilly here how do we go from 21 to 5 in a matter of a day I didn't sleep well last night as all the fences and whatever else seemed to be banging around so feeling a bit washed out this morning Dog has been walked and am just sitting with a cuppa
TA I think we are all struggling with down days some days we are all good and the next minute just crying all the time you have a lot on your mind I know even though they are adults they are still our children and we worry when they have to work with this awful disease . I feel for your daughters in laws i cannot imagine what they are going through I hope today goes as well as it can for all
Right onwards n upwards for me off to mothers later as she has a phone consultation with a consultant and doesnt think she can cope on her own she also needs some shopping. Have a great day whatever you are up to and take care of yourselves xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Just popping back to let you all know that I washed the floors and him indoors promptly rose from his bed, came downstairs and walked on them.
I've been down the garden and the rats have even fished out the compostable wrapper from my comic, I mean professional association publication.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back10 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but with a bitter wind, it was so cold yesterday we lit the fire in the evening it was bliss, I have a wash on the go and will hang it out it should dry very quickly today.
I thought the announcement by Boris was quite confusing last night and did not make a lot of sense, OH is a carpenter and did not know if h was due at work today or not, and why can we exercise more from Wednesday and not today ??? If OH does go back to work we will struggle with the shopping he is doing it for us, his dad and my mum atm, but it takes a lot of time, I am not allowed in the shops yet and dd is working from home full time !! Im sure we will work something out.
Onto today washing to hang out and a hoover through and mop of the floors should do it, a walk later and I was going to have a gentle ride on my bike but I will see if the wind drops first.
Take care all and hugs to TA xxx13 -
Morning All
Clear blue sky but freezing cold, there was a frost last night, hope my plants are ok!
Good to see you TA, remember you can moan all you like here, we'll listen!
Yesterday was spent decorating and today will be the same, I should get most of it done but I'm trying to cover a dark grey with a lighter one so will probably need more coats than normal. One wall will be a slightly different grey as I don't think I have enough paint, glad really as I hate having half tins hanging around that I then throw out. The peacock blue under the window looks fab, wasn't sure at first but it's just enough colour.
Washing just about to go out but no other housework being done until the decorating is finished!
Happy Monday, take care. XX12 -
Morning folks. The excitement for today will be the visit from the window cleaner - I think! Can't work out his monthly rota and forgot to ask his wife on Thursday. Let's make it a surprise.Life just got more confusing after Boris last night. Seems that my friends down south can drive to visit me though I can't go to visit them. I'll just sit tight for a while longer and keep washing those blooming dishes.Yesterday I made DM's favourite meal of fennel, lemon, garlic and fine noodles. It was lovely to see her joyful face when I brought it to her as I hadn't told her what I was making. She eats a lot of fish so this was a good change too.If the sun keeps shining I'll go out for a walk, hope that nasty wind has died down.Happy Monday to all.13

Morning all! Well, yesterdays weather deteriorated rapidly didn't it? From sunny to cloudy, raining and blowing a gale in the space of a few hours..I did ask OH if he's shave my head around the sides and back yesterday bu after the weather, he said keep it, you'll need it to keep your head warm...he was right too... I laid two blocks down for the path and had to stop. I'll put my woolies on today and get on with the rest, it shouldn't take long. Got to get it done today to see how many bts are left to chuck in the skip because they're collecting it tomorrow.OHs mother came round with a socially distanced big piece of strawberry cake, which was very nice and didn't last very long at all...Shes checking up on OH, and it's still killing her not to hug and kiss him...I think we're both lucky in one way, neither of us are very touchy feely, it took my friends years to get me used to hugging them and now all their good work has been undone in six weeks...Today will not prove to very productive I fear, although I have already thought of lots more jobs I could do in the garden. Some repotting is on the cards too, the fatsia doesn't like it where it is so tha's going to come up and go somewhere else.AOD, don't worry, the worms will find their way into your compost wherever you put it. And of course he did, they can smell a newly washed floor from a mile away..TA, yay for your DS and I'd be exactly the same about your daughter. A friend is going to be working in ahotzone this week, I'm worried about it for her even if she isn't. P.S. Monna wants to know about your steam cleaner....Camelot, you're going to have a whole new house before long Scarlet, I get everything delivered, it has to be, and you're keeping someone in business by doing that... Ruby, it didn't make much sense to me either. all I got from it was work if you can and don't use public transport if you can avoid it , have more excercise and you can meet a friend for a socially distanced chat. Churchill he is not, as my sister said, even if he does think he is. Gers, good to hear your mum was cheered yesterday, well done! Right, hey all readers along, hope the wind hasn't blown you a new barnet, stay....safe? ...May showers Monday...
Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12 -
Morning all, it's dry but brrr that wind is cold.Today I must have a good sort out day, there are lots of thing in the wrong place. I shall be taking things from the office to the spare room, picking things up from the spare room and putting things back into our bedroom etc.... then do the same for the downstairs. I have let the house clutter a bit while I have been sorting the garden, mea culpa again, I should put things away first as last. I am hoping that the amount in the ironing basket includes non ironing too ! I think that will keep me occupied for most of the day if I tidy things as I go too. Then the rest of the day will be mine and I need to crack on with my jigsaw as I've only done the edge and a corner. Only about 1, 900 pieces to goI found Boris very confusing yesterday, but I think he should have said it was for England only, as some of our youngsters may have watched Boris and not the Welsh news. Our message is we are still under lockdown for another 3 weeks and anyone from England on a jolly will be fined if you cross the border into Wales. ( especially if you haven't had your jabs )Right no good sitting here procrastinating I have sorting to do, oh must I ?Take care all, stay safe and well. Hugs to anyone having a tough/troubled time. I'm still up and down with my emotions, on an hourly basis sometimes.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13
