British Airways - Return Flight from USA Cancelled But...

My wife had booked to fly BA on 1st June to New York for a week Manchester via Heathrow to JFK and back again. The JFK to Heathrow flight has been cancelled by BA, but not only are the others still there, but they've asked her to accept a change to the time of the Manchester to Heathrow shuttle. They have also removed the option for a refund from their website (we'd rather do that than get a voucher). Has anyone had recent experience of dealing with BA in a situation like this ?
