New build ensuite has no shower trap

We've recently moved into a brand new house and have noticed that the en suite shower tray has no waste trap, instead when we lift the silver cover there is simply a hole with a pipe running through the middle with the water running around it.
There is no waste trap to catch hairs so I'm worried that we will end up getting a blockage at some point.
The water does flow freely but not quick enough, so once you've been in shower for 2-3 minutes there is a rise in the water level which always leaves behind horrid soap scum, which means I'm cleaning the shower after every use.
My main concern is if there is no waste trap  where is all of the hair going, and how can I clean it?
The shower tray is Mira if that helps.
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

You can't necessarily see the trap, some are not obvious. However, as it's not draining efficiently you need to contact the developer to get it sorted.

  • Thank you @EssexExile, so if I wanted to clear out hairs, there is no way of me doing it?
I've looked up all Mira shower trays and they all look like they should have a trap fitted to easily clean out?

Congratulations on the move. It's very likely the trap was lost/forgotten and overlooked in the building firms final check before releasing the property. Keep a pad and pen handy, you should start raising a snagging list for the firm to come back and attend to as no new build is perfect. Search this forum for "snagging list".

  • Can you post a picture please as you must have a trap fitted!
1 you cannot  connect waste pipe directly to a shower tray.
2 the smell without a trap would be quite strong.
3 water would be dripping from ceiling below.
4 it would have been picked up on air test.

I think there is some confusion about the term "trap" here. The "trap" is not there to collect hair, it is there to stop smells, water is trapped in a u-bend or bottle to block the path of air coming up from the sewers. The OP refers to lifting a silver cover, that is there to stop big things going down the drain & blocking it, there probably won't be anything else to catch hair.

The real problem is that it doesn't drain properly, as Mutton_Geoff says, add it to the snagging list.

I wonder if you're looking for the wrong type of shower trap? If it's a low profile shower tray, there may be a flat silicone shower trap hidden where the water runs away. You may be able to feel the rim, then you pull it out sideways to remove hairs and clean it. Ours has the name Wirquin on it. If you search for something like membrane for slim shower trap or flat low profile shower trap you should get an idea of what I mean.

They stated that they have a Mira shower tray and this should be fitted with a waste trap, something that is specifically designed to stop (or trap) anything apart from liquids from going down the outlet pipe.
This is a Mira waste trap:
