hotel refund refusal

My son booked a B&B in Sheffield for the end of July, he paid in full and made the booking in Feb this year, as he was going to tramlines festival but obviously the festival has been cancelled. The hotel is refusing to refund anyone & has offered a voucher that is only valid until the end of this year and they state can can make no exceptions.
This b&b was booked purposely to use whilst at the festival, a voucher is no use whatsoever to them. Can anything be done so that he can be refunded? Can the hotel refuse point blank to give a refund?. it says nothing on their website & there is nothing stated on there policies and important info sections on the booking.com website, which is where the b&b was booked.

If it was a non-cancellable room, then apart from asking the hotel for a refund (that you have done) your only option at the moment is to take a voucher.Plemb86 said:My son booked a B&B in Sheffield for the end of July, he paid in full and made the booking in Feb this year, as he was going to tramlines festival but obviously the festival has been cancelled. As you said a voucher is no good, then you have little option than to wait and hope the hotel is closed, then you would be entitled to a cash refund.

We booked an Hotel in Belgium pre coronavirus for June 3rd it was on a non refundable basis, however, the Uk Govt will not let us leave the UK and the Belgium Govt will not let us enter Belgium. The Hotel has advised it is still open but accepts that we are unlikely to arrive! Yet they have only offered vouchers. Our credit card company says that as it was a non refundable booking, they cannot help. What can we do?

At the moment all you can do is take or leave the vouchers.
What happens next is wait to see what the rules are in 3 weeks time.
If you have travel insurance, that is another route.

Hi, Sorry to jump onto this thread. I have tried to have a look round the internet, but can't find any info on this. Please can you point me in the right direction to show me where (apart from a chat forum) I would be entitled to get a refund?Life__Goes__On said:

I have a hotel booking in Liverpool the end of this month. Obviously its been cancelled, but the hotel don't want to refund and only are offering vouchers. I booked through booking.com and paid via paypal (not sure if either of those two mean anything, but thought I'd mention it)

Booked a room through a booking agent for May 19th for 7nights and paid a security deposit. of £20.00 and agreed a three stage payment pan. I wanted to cancel but they said I would incur cancellation fees so should defer the booking, which I thought I ha, .I never received confirmation that this had been carried out as they then shut down normal service due to Covid 19. They took the first payment and then the second, I emailed them and asked for a refund as the hotel had a big banner across its webpage stating it would not be open prior to May 31st, which in my book would constitute cancellation.. I emailed them again and got a reply stating they were still trying to get me to the destination and should check the FCO website for advice. They took the final balance making a total of £734.00 on May 5th. I finally got an email today, stating that the booking was cancelled and that I would receive a Refund Credit Note which was valid until May 31st 2021. However, if I did not use all of the credit note and wanted a refund I could apply after that date. The mailbox to claim any refund is not open until May 31st 2021. So, they are sitting on my money and I have to pay for the credit card company. What are my rights, can I demand a full refund now, I would not want to use this particular booking agent again, so a refund would be preferable. Many thanks.0
