I live my my grandparents and my grandad has been told to self isolate for 12 weeks including not to go out into his own garden. He’s been self isolating for 8 weeks now. We have all stayed in following this rule. But now restrictions have slightly eased do you think I could go for a walk outside making sure I social distance?

There was nothing stopping you before.
Some people are still working and living with vulnerable people.1 -
The wording of letter hasn’t helped here but lots of people in the shielding category have been going out for a walk at the least riskiest time and have certainly sat in their gardens providing they are private. That’s for you to judge the circumstances0

The standard 'shielding' letter does not say to avoid your own garden. Have your grandparents interpreted the advice too strictly?0

The idea is to stay away from others, can you not go somewhere quiet for a walk?0

I think you should all have another read of the letter again.

My Stepfather with luekemia has the shielding letter and it says to "not leave your home"rhiann1994 said:I live my my grandparents and my grandad has been told to self isolate for 12 weeks including not to go out into his own garden. Your garden is part of your home. So as long as you don't stand right by the gate, fence or wall where people are walking past it's ok to go out into the garden.
Does your Grandfather have a very small garden where he would be closer than 2 metres people outside the household?
