General home renovation related questions

I'm planning to get a home renovation company in to do a full home renovation with some extension work for my house. They will be doing a bunch of stuff including electrical work and gas work. They have openly said that they will be providing official certificates for various things they do including: build over agreement, building control certificate, electrical wiring certificate and gas safe certificate. Are there any other certificates that should be included?
Also, what's generally accepted as how many years/months guarantee for the builders work?

Are they just acting as main contractors or are they more of a design and build company who will also check to see if the works may require Planning approval as well as producing the relevant drawings, details and specifications?
Some of those approvals can be included as part of the Building Control process as opposed to obtaining them independently. There will also be a requirement for a FENSA installer for your windows and doors. Again, Building Control can include the checking/approving of that if the installers are unable to self certify themselves.

They are acting as a one stop shop for everything. They sub-contract work such as getting an architecture who will do the drawings and speak to a structural engineer and doing all the planning approval. With regards to windows and doors, they again use another company for that (in a sub-contracted way).0
