Creditspring membership cancellation

In March my mother has gone through a couple of websites seeking credit lenders, in the end she didn't need one but in the process she has opened accounts just to search her options. One of these websites she visited was Creditspring. I have to add here that my mother is not a native English speaker and she struggles with understanding of what she does on the Internet (one such example is signing up to Amazon Prime when she never intended to, whilst buying on Amazon).
It turns out she also signed up to Creditspring and I only found out now. Earlier this year I advised her to log into her bank account and cancel any direct debit she does not recognise and she did. This was following the Amazon Prime incident.
Now Creditspring is sending her emails that she missed paying her fees for last 2 months, that her account is in arrears and that she will be reported to Equifax.
I'm planning to give them a call tomorrow, because she isn't fluent enough to handle a phone call in English (I'm not sure if they'll speak to me, but due to lockdown it's not possible for me to visit her and have the call together).
In their FAQs it states that they basically won't be able to close the account if she owes them anything, so they will probably demand at least £12 to be paid. Now the closing account section mentions that they will have to calculate an "early settlement amount", which I suspect will amount to full £72 annual membership fee.

My question is - has anyone dealt with them in the past and knows what they will ask to pay? Is it worth just ignoring them? She never borrowed any money and promised she will never request another loan - so a black mark on her Credit score won't be a problem, but I need to be sure there won't be other repercussions

  • Several years ago, there was a spate of Loan Broking websites asking for credit or debit card details 'for checking or verification purposes' only for people to find they were being debited for unwanted or unknown fees.

Tell this company that your mother has language difficulties, and if the money so far paid is not refunded, you will report them to the Financial Conduct Authority.

Do you think it's worth a shot? They could refute with "we use clear language and when you enter card details you are agreeing to our membership fees".
I mean, it's a good shot, but I also feel like anyone answering will just read out the paragraphs to me - there is no compassion with them.

No, the matter would get escalated to the FOS and not the FCA.  The FCA only sets the rules and regulatory framework, whilst the FOS is the agency responsible for their enforcement.  You would therefore escalate the complaint to the FOS if CreditSpring do not uphold the original written complaint.
