Expedia refusing refund/only part of journey cancelled

I booked two flights from Birmingham to Toronto, via Paris, using Expedia. We booked Virgin Atlantic flights but Air France were the airline we would be using. We received an email from Air France, advising that our flights between Paris and Toronto have been cancelled and no alternative was available at this time. However, they did not cancel the flights between Birmingham and Paris, which are obviously no good to me without the second leg. Virgin Atlantic and Air France have told me I must go through Expedia but Expedia has advised that Virgin will only offer a voucher. My questions are:
1. Can I insist on a refund, as I will not be able to go later in the year?
2. Where do I stand with regard to the flights between Birmingham and Paris? Surely, as I booked one journey, the whole lot should have been cancelled. I fear that if I cancel these myself, I will lose my money.

    1 yes a cash refund
2 If you booked as one trip if any leg is cancelled,  then they all have to be,
    When was your flight?

You are entitled to a refund of the entire reservation, as long as all flights were on the same reservation.

Virgin Atlantic are issuing cash refunds for cancelled flights (with big delays), so tell Expedia that's what you want.
  • I was due to fly out on 24th June 2020.
