Hypothetical question

Hello, I am self-employed on a sub-contract basis and I am about to be furloughed like thousands of others.
My question is, what if I contract Coronavirus as a self-employed worker after the furlough period ends?
What, if anything would I be entitled to if I was unable to work then?
thanks Fula.

If you're self employed you can not be furloughed under the CJRS so you won't receive any furlough payments.
You may be eligible for a grant under the SEISS if you meet the criteria. If you do qualify you get that grant regardless of whether you have returned to work, have reduced work or no work.0 -
Thanks Herman.
yes you’re right, that’s what I actually meant and yes I do meet the criteria.
My question is though, and it’s hypocritical really.
I am due to return to work next week plus the scheme as it stands only covers to the end of May.
So if I became ill after the scheme ends, what would I be entitled to at that point?
The reason I ask this is because my wife works in care where she is high risk and in turn makes me high risk.0 -
If you are ill in the future you may be able to claim Universal Credit if your come is low and depending on your family circumstances. It would be no different to being ill in ‘normal’ times. alternatively new style ESA maybe a possibility if you paid NI for 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
