O/S Daily Sunday 10 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast and blustery wind this morning, temperature has really dropped also.
Dinner last night was chicken curry, rice, naan and poppadum - very nice. Lunch today will be roast chicken, roasties, mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy.
Yesterday we were quite lazy, we ate the LO burgers and hot dogs for lunch then the curry for dinner. I got fed up with my nails as they have grown too long and some have broken, they look a right mess, so I cut and filed them the best I could, they now look marginally better in that they're not so long but the shape isn't great - but I'm now not catching them in the keyboard!
Once I've got the lunch prepped and cooking, I'll be prepping lunches ready for tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting us off nmlc. We have similar weather after some heavy showers yesterday. I put some buckets out to catch rain overnight but the rain stopped.
Not content with sitting on the birdtable eating all the birds' food, a rat has dug under the compost bin and spread the contents all over. It has just been scared off by a big squirrel.
Yesterday I got the grass cut and am working on a tangle of tendrils in the messy bit of the garden, will probably carry on. Unless it rains. I'm keeping it messy but not so messy that I can't get into it.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Good morning
The weather has certainly changed here - the wind picked up last night and it rained. Still the same this morning and cold - I've put the heating on. Yesterday I sat outside all afternoon with my book and podcasts and was very lazy - I'm glad I did now!
I'll go down for my Sunday Times this morning and then call in at mam and dads so dad can do his weekly email to eldest DD in Stockholm - we'll have to sit in the garage. He talks and I type.
Right, I'm going to move - hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all
Overcast here and rain due later but sunshine is supposed to be back tomorrow
Yesterday I took dd's pup out for a walk alone first time ive walked her alone since the op as she can tend to pull a little bit, she was as good as gold bless her, so might do the same today, OH takes our pup separately as she needs a much longer walk.
I am on the look out for a small trough to make a miniature pond in the garden, I have been looking at them online and they are so lovely, not a massive one I want about 3 foot by one foot and I will get a small fountain to put in, it will hopefully attract some wild life in.
Onto today we will have a quick tidy round and I suspect OH's dad will phone for some shopping he seems to phone every other day despite us asking him to do a list once a week, he cant seen to fathom that we might have other things to do
, oh well as long as it keeps him safe !
Will do liver bacon and onions for dinner seeing as its a bit overcast with mash, cabbage peas and gravy - Lovely !!
Have good days all and take care xx13 -
Morning all! Sunny again even though the weather said expect showers...So I'll expect showers...Progress in my self-imposed list of gardening jobs is slow. Creakiness reigns. It's just going tot ake longer is all. I found a picture of the garden a couple of years ago pre fence paint, pre fixing the panels at the back. What a mess! At least I have a before and after to show now. Expect that at the end of the list of jobs.I just read a report in the paper about lots of people sunbathing and not being moved on by the police. One person said and I quote “Two days ago, police were confiscating beer from drinkers’ hands...Weeks before that, they were turning up in vans and telling people to leave the park.” Is this person living on a different planet? Weeks before we were in lockdown [and still are] so of course they would have turned up in vans and told people to leave the park. So this person, who knows there's a lockdown, was in the park weeks before, two days ago and that day...Which says a lot for people who understand what lockdown means....or they're just chancing their arm and being as idiotic as they can be. I despair. On the plus side while cleaning a cupboard last night to make room for something I found a pack of dried yeast. I knew I'd bought one, I just couldn't find it. Now I just have to wait for a delivery of flour to use it
And that just tells me I really ought to make an inventory [ no, haven't done one yet] ..Ruby, hope you had a nice BBQ. I got a small cast iron trough from a farmer last year and was planning to so the same kind of thing. Might be worth your while to search FB marketplace, he was doing an allsorts sale..Monna, my mother always used ot tell me the story of one of the women who sort of befriended her when she first got married and they bought a house. She was always beautifully dressed and turned out and was very glamourous compared to my mother and made sure she knew it. So my mother invited her round for a cup of tea one day and the woman went round, and after that never spoke to my mother again. Because my mother had an outside downstairs toilet and this woman had a toilet in her kitchen. She always used to tell me that story with glee. Nanny, I did ask the OH about having chickens again, he said no...Shame, I could do with a supply of fresh eggs myself..Enjoy! Nelski, hope the sun stayed out yesterday! RIghty ho, off to garden, shower and eat breakfast I go [ not necessarily in that order], hey all reading along, hope the weather is good to you, Sprucing up everything Sunday...:)

Morning All
Much colder this morning with a stiff breeze. We didn't get the promised downpour, there seems to have been just a slight shower overnight, wish I had watered the garden now. I scalped the grass too last night thinking we would have a decent amount of rain! I did, however water the veggies at the allotment.
I had a bit of excitement yesterday, I was sanding the walls and woodwork in the bedroom and took the door handle off. Stupidly left the handle out on the landing and closed the door to sand it so I was stuck! Luckily my neighbour was out in her back garden chatting to her sister (safely distanced) so I asked her if she would come round the back as the door was open and let me out, she is tiny and couldn't reach over the gate, meanwhile her sister climbed over the two deck rails and a fence (there's about an 18 inch gap between), she's 73!! I did ask her to go over to other neighbours to get someone to open the gate but she insisted. Anyway, she let me out of the bedroom and left via the front door where other neighbours had got the spare key and were trying to get in but the key was in the other side of the door. I may keep a low profile today!
I'm going to put the door handle back on this morning and then paint the ceiling, if that dries enough I'll make a start on the walls later.
Are you OK TA? Missing you.
Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX13 -
Morning all.Another one missing you TA. Hope you’re ok.Lovely cold wind when I was walking the dog. I did enjoy it.Enjoyed the warm day yesterday though.Easy tea of mince and tatties and lots of veg. Mince already cooked from last week so an easy defrost.
Camelot I’m glad your neighbour helped you to get out!RedRuby it’s lovely that you had your solo walk with DD pup. Well done you.Hope you all have as good a day as you can. It will be lovely to have TA back with us x13 -
Morning all,Well I know they said the weather would change but this is ridiculous
Not posted for days as I've not got much to report.BBqd on Friday, curry last night and beef stew tonight seeing as it's much colder.Didnt feel like using it when it was warm. Got an apple crumble for after, prob with ice cream as I havent that much milk to make custard. AOD, we've seen a rat at the back too, near the bird table. I stopped putting food out for a couple of days and we havent seen it since but I felt mean as the birds were queuing up saying 'feed me'! Our local paper said there had been quite a few reports to the council since they stopped visits during lockdown.I want to sort my wardrobe out - I got my summer clothes out a few days ago but there are still winter ones too so needs organising but perhaps I'd better wait until it warms up again before I store them away!Take care all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all. We didn't have the promised rain but like others it's overcast and windy. It's still warm though as we have the patio doors open.Yesterday the WAG decided to re-open the garden centres and the tips, neither of which I will be frequenting anytime soon. The schools will remain closed for the foreseeable future as social distancing in a class here would be a logistical nightmare. Don't know what Boris will do today, but I hope any change doesn't start a second round of virus.Today will be a day of rest as I think I did too much yesterday, even my aches are aching ! After yesterday's garden fest I think the garden is starting to get it's shape back although there's still more to do, but now the front garden needs it's hedge cut........ it's never ending !! Never mind it's keeping us occupied during isolation, don't know about fit though ( not on how I'm feeling today ) and also keeping the mind active sorting out the food situation ....... and Dad's
Sunday lunch will be 2 chicken portions wrapped in bacon which was a Morries substitute for a chicken
, good job we are not a family !! After lunch I want to make a bread and butter pudding and Mr Fix It found a recipe for warburtons crumpets so we'll try that too. That'll be tea sorted. TA please let us know you are ok, lots of us are worried about you. HugsTake care all, stay safenan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Morning all.
Just overcast and gloomy here. I wasn't going out and got all my washing dry yesterday so I don't really mind.
nmlc my nails are in a bad state too. They grow like Topsy but then splinter and crack. I don't look after them enough. I recall having my nails done the day before my wedding. My dear friend, who was a trained beautician, looked at my nails disdainfully and said, "What shape does modom aspire to, or shall we just settle for all the same length."
AOD, I must remember that phrase - intentionally messy - it could come in very useful.
RR beware of having water in your garden to attract wildlife. My neighbours did that and now have the herons as a permanent fixture on their fence. They have given up replacing their fish, but the herons haven't given up hope.
taff, I don't call a toilet in the kitchen posh. I call it insanitary,
Camelot, I did the self-same thing with my sitting room door the other week. Fortunately it was one of the hot days and I had the French windows open so was able to sort myself out. No doubt if I had called out, my 90 year old neighbour would have bounded round with her toolbox.
Rosy, all my summer clothes are still in vacuum bags and I'm dreading getting them out as I know most of them won't fit this year. Ah well. Perhaps the charity shops will be open before I pass out with heat exhaustion.
Whatever you are all up to, try to enjoy today.
TA, if you could manage just an "I'm here," post, we could all breathe again. Do hope that you are OK.
THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY

Morning
Having a lazy one today after seeing the change in weather went back to bed for an hour.
Camelot you made me giggle and its totally something I would do
Taff I feel your frustration I have a friend who is rapidly becoming less of a friend as he talks about his day visiting his mum and all his grandkids picking stuff up miles away from eBay purchases and had a drunken VE party with some neighbours. He's proud to be the only one who hasn't had to lockdown
Had a really great day yesterday aside from the fantastic weather most of the day I also got a lovely surprise of some Bloom and Wild flowers from an amazing friend (you know who you are
) It really made my day and seen them start to wake up today is wonderful. I love the sticker "sssh you're flowers are sleeping" Such a kind thought in these weird times
So no real plans dinner will be the left over liver and bacon (snap Ruby
) with something from the bottom of the fridge possibly leeks and Jerseys.
Have a chilled sunday all and also missing TA hope she and her family are all ok
